30 carbine primer question

I'm ready to start loading 30 carbine for my OMBH and have question about primers...there is lots of data published for the rifle loading and also some (more limited) for the Blackhawk loading. I'm going to use either 2400 or H110 powder and I'm finding all kinds of discrepancies in what I see for primers....Small rifle vs. small rifle magnum primers....some sources even saying the small pistol primer is fine...Seems like most have outlined using straight small rifle primers...I have CCI and I've always used CCI for other calibers with very good results. The OMBH I have has not had any trigger/hammer work done and wont...it has had the conversion to the transfer bar. I don't want to complicate things..just want to load up some medium loads and go shoot some targets...going to be using 100 grain plinkers or 110 grain fmj bullets....any comments much appreciated...

The .30 carbine was designed to operate at higher pressures than handgun cartridges at that time and used a small RIFLE primer.

Blackhawks have no trouble setting off a small rifle primer. I've used small rifle primers in 357 Mag, 9mm, 40 S&W, & 38 Spl. I also use small rifle primers in the NT 45 ACP cases with the small pockets.

I too have always used small rifle. No issues with ignition in my Blackhawk.

With H110 I use CCI small rifle mag primers for 30 Carbine, mainly because I use a small rifle mag primer for my 223 loads and then only have one small rifle primer on hand. My load ends up using 14.4 gr H110 with a 110 fmj. Min load is 14.0 and max is 15.0. A small rifle primer shoud work fine, as the case will be full when using H110 if you go by published loads.

I should add I have used small pistol before without incident. We're not talking about much in the way of charge to burn. Even so, I still use small rifle in my carbines.

Thanks, neighbor...do you shoot any of the 110 jacketed or the "plinker 100 grain" stuff? For now I'll probably stick with what I've got coming...then probably look at plated or some Missouri Bullet projectiles...use them a lot in other calibers...thanks.

opos, I've used sierra or speer jacketed and simi jacketed and cast from 100 to 120 gr. I've had good results with 10.5 to 12 gr. of 2400
Watch the trim length and high primers. I know the Lyman manual has loads for both the rifle and revolver.
Use hard cast bullets. Throats are usually tight on the 30carb. chambers also. You may want to polish them up.
