.243 M77 MkII International, Best Ammo Choice??

Any of you guys out there shot or shooting with an International model? With the 1:9 twist, whose ammo is performing best for you out of the 18 1/2" barrel. Should the gun be favoring the heavier grain bullets - 95 or 100 grain, or do some of the light loads work better.

I will work up a load for this rifle, but I'm hoping to save a few visits to the range based on some feedback.

I'm probably not going to be real helpful. I've had four .243's and none were tack drivers. Each seemed to perform reasonably well with a single bullet weight and particular powder, but that combination was never the same for each rifle, and you had to spend a lot of time and money finding that golden duo. In general, I do seem to remember that the 90 to 95 grain bullets shot better. For deer, I used a 95 grain nosler partition behind H4831 and it seemed to give good velocity and accuracy in a 22 inch barrel. Right now I occasionally shoot a 77 RSI in .250 savage. I can get 2 inch , 3 shot groups with a 100 grain remington core-lokt, which is good enough for deer.

Since you're in British Columbia, what you should really get is one of the new Ruger #1's in .303 british.

I did a lot of research and asked questions before I went for the falling block design. What I did purchase was (2) 1885 Brownings - one in .270 and one in 22-250. I really enjoy both, and will be working on building up a load for both of these once I work through my .243.

I just thought that the .303 british chambering would be really cool, since you're in canada, and the .303 has always been a favorite cartridge of mine, too.

However, the new browning high walls are great rifles - almost more a work of art than a rifle.
