Hello all, new to the board as well as shooting. I just purchased the Ruger 22LR Takedown. Cant wait to use it. Can someone recommend the right scope for target shooting? The gun wasnt very expensive, so I dont want to buy a scope that costs as much or more than the gun.
One issue I think I may have come across.....with a scope on the Takedown, I am afraid the sight which is mounted on the gun may get in the way when you try to break it down. That said, do I need a particular ring? (height). And again, a decent scope recommendation would be great.

Thanks, be safe
Steve

I'm using a weaver classic rimfire 4X w/short rings. It's a tight fit in length in the bag but does fit. Nice clear scope and 4x suits me fine on a .22

my issue, besides fitting in the bag, is the sight on the Takedown. Ive been told you cant assemble and twist the barrel because the scope and sight touch! Anu insight on this?
thanks
Steve

It depends on how far forward the optic extends, heighth of rings, etc. Plenty of choices that won't interfere with the rear sight.

FWIW, the Weaver classic rimfire I have is mounted on low rings and does not extend out far enough to hit the rear sight so take down is not a issue.

The UTG Leapers 3x9 32 Bug Buster is a good match for the TakeDown. I would also order the UTG offset rings bringing the scope back about 2" closer to your eye. I use mine at the range for 25 yds. and less. I had to put a thick piece of tape under the rear mount to raise the point of impact a little higher. Without it my point of impact was to low. I ran out of adjustment on the adjustment. This method worked fine. I also had to use blue locktite on the ring mounting screws so they wouldn't loosen up. It fits fine in the TD bag.
