.22 WMR Only Single Six?

I have a chance to trade a Remington 03A3 for a Single Six made in 1960, marked ".22 WMR ONLY". The rifle is nice, waiting for pics of the revolver since it will be a C&R to C&R trade.

Anyone know of a .22 WMR only Single Six, and if it's worth an even up trade on an excellent condition post-war refurbed 03A3?

Ruger made quite a few magnum marked Single Sixes from 1959-62. Should have a serial number in the 3xxxxx range.

They were also offered with an extra cylinder chambered in .22 LR.

Every Ruger Collector worth his salt has at least one...

Of course, in the tradition of SR&Co. there are several variations which can entice the collector.

I really do not know what kind of gun you have to trade but if you are interested in getting some RSS's 8) That is a fine one to get --esp. if condition is good

i have the same box/gun combo. mine has the extra 22lr cylinder. only thing is the frame is marked:

ruger .22 cal.
, not 22 rf or wmr.

does that mean the box/gun are miss matched?

serial is 21-30XX4, according to ruger 1972?

any info would be great. thanks BB

I think it sounds like a fair deal if the Ruger looks good, both me and the guy should be happy. It's a nice condition 03A3, what I call "high shooter grade" since it's a post WWII rebuild and not totally "correct" as in it's not like it was when it left Remington in 1943,but it's still 100% USGI and it was one of those rifles was was refurbed after the war and put away for re-issue. It may have been given to a State NG unit but doesn't look to have seen any field time. It looks great and it's a great shooter. I was looking to get about $4-500 for the rifle, if the Single Six is in nice shape, those older ones look to be $4-500 guns these days depending on different features so hopefully it works out.

I have an O3A3 just like yours in arsenal refinished condition and they go for between $600 and $700 at Poulin's firearm auction held twice a year here in Fairfield, Maine. But, as you say, if your both happy, that's what counts!.......................Dick :wink:

There seems to be a bit more of a demand for the 03A3's (meaning the prices are a bit higher,) than the RSSM's. If the RSSm you are looking at does not have the box or papers,, start deducting from the value.

I haven't seen pics of the gun yet, if it's less than mint I may offer the guy a partial trade for it + cash. I can't make a decision until I see what the Ruger looks like 8)

Ruger used the RSSM catalog number throughout Old Model production despite the fact that the guns were marked as regular Single-Sixes.
The true Ruger Single-Six Magnums (RSSM) were made in the '59-'62 era and basically disappeared after the change to the XR3-RED grip frame.
The box labels continued with the RSSM catalog number throughout Old Model production.

Thanks for all the info but the deal for the trade fell through.......I guess the guy decided he wanted to keep his SS .22 Mag more than he wanted an 03A3 8) I will still be selling the 03A3 and probably using the cash to get a 4 5/8 .44 Mag Stainless Super Blackhawk or a 9" .22 Single Six.
