I just bought a H&R Handi-rifle in .204 ruger and started reloading for it. I really like the 204 Im going to save my $ and get a Ruger bolt gun any of you shoot a .204?

Custom A1 Sako action, looks like a tiny little Weatherby MKV

Ruger #1s in "V", "B" and "AB" I shoot a 17 Remington and other 17s more. but the 204 makes a great short/moderate range varmint rifle and a wonderful walk around rifle for small varmints.

Light bullets shed velocity REALLY fast but you will probably enjoy the zero or near zero recoil more than anything/ With bullets in the 30-35 grain range you can shoot and see your bullets hit with an 18X scope. The heavier bullets have JUST enough recoil to take your eye off the target.

Enjoy.

Had a Tikka t3 lite sold it to mostly fund a DPMS in .204, both are great shooters, it just is nice to have an immediate followup shot and with the light recoil from the .204 a double-tap is a breeze.

I think if ruger started chambering the American rifle in 204 I'd have to buy one.
Now that would be a fine Coyote/Varmint rifle. I sold my .204 MKII Target because it was too heavy. But that would be something in an American.

I shoot two of them, a Ruger No. 1 and a custom assembled upper for my AR-15 with an Olympic Arms stainless, fluted varmint rifle. Both are very accurate and make a whole morning or afternoon of shooting a real pleasure. My thanks and admiration to Ruger and Hornady for developing this cartridge.

I haven't done any reloading in this caliber yet, but plan on starting soon. Any recommendations of powder and loads would be appreciated.

Hello,

I have just started to reload for the 204 Ruger in my No.1.

Here is where I started:

32 grain V-Max
CCI 400
IMR 4064 27.0 grains
COL: 2.245
Hornady brass

40 grain V-Max
CCI 400
IMR 4064 26.5 grains
COL: 2.250
Hornady brass

Using Hornady Custom Grade dies and not crimping with these dies.

Follow up with Lee factory crimp dies.

My No.1 seems to prefer the 32 grain bullets so far but I have just begun to tinker.

I have a Hawkeye all weather ultralight that is one of my favorite guns. Accurate with handloads and a real joy to carry.

Here is a three shot 100 yard target.

Got a relative who uses his to take white tail. I do not condone it. A few years ago TN allowed all center fires for deer. The round makes "no step" kills under 100 yards with good shot placement. No exit or any trace of bullet to be found, just mush.

Having shot the round, I find it very accurate and mild. Great potential.

Those of usthat have been shooting the 204 likes it, those of us that have not are suspect of the little screamer
