I've been looking for a decent 2.5 inch barrel Security Six for quite some time. Found a 6 inch last year and purchased it, bit the shorter barrels have eluded me until today.

Went on a trip looking for S&W's and found this 85-90% cosmetic condition, superb mechanicals and bore 1980 2.5 inch Security Six for $370.

And here is the factory target gripped 6 inch it will share the safe with.

You done good! Those Six Series revolvers are my personal favorites. Seems around here the snubbys are mighty hard to find too.

I've been looking for a 6" stainless for quite a while now with no luck.

Don't believe you will find a 2-1/2" Security Six. You will probably find a 2-3/4" Security/Speed/Service Six though. Maybe there were some 2-1/2" Sixes made. If there were I have never heard of one, and believe they are pretty rare. Maybe someone has heard of one.

Be sure to measure from muzzle to barrel just in front of the cylinder.

I stand corrected, it is 2 3/4 inches. Tag said 2 1/2 inches and I didn't measure it until this morning.

Anyhow, I can't wait to take it to the range along with a recently acquired 4 inch GP-100. If these two shoot as well as my 6 inch GP-100 I'll be really happy as it will group almost any load tightly. My 6 inch Security-Six is pretty ammo specific. It likes medium to full power 158 grain magnum loads. Sprays .38 Specials all over the target.

Shot the 2.75 inch Security-Six and the 4 inch GP-100 this morning and they both passed with flying colors. The snubby S.Six is the most accurate short barreled revolver I've ever shot! Wad cutters, 158 FMJ .38 's and some mid level .357 mag 158's all shot to point of aim and grouped nicely as long as I did my part. Same for the GP-100 which has a way better trigger than my 20 plus year old version even though my old one has a Wolff spring kit.

Now I need to find a 4 inch Security -Six and I'll have all three barrel lengths.

Someone in my town is advert a 6-inch Sec 6 @ $400. Is this a good price or should I keep lookin for a GP100?

A little over a year ago I bought both of my blue .357 6" Security Sixes here in the Salt Lake City area. One for $249 and one for $270. They both have some "character":

They both look like this, the grips have the Ruger logo, the other one has factory wooden grips.
