I was shooting my Supers .44's few days ago. Load is 10 grs. of Unique, 240 Red bullet from Missouri Cast Bullets. distance 80 yrds. The threaded plug has been loose for a time. Ruger said to replace barrel, but this shoots so well. Hate to touch it. The Ejection rod cover flew out and hit me in head! This target is 3 shots, 1/2" group @ 80 yrds.

I have seen threads on this forum about soldering the stud and also on ruger.net. A person tried JB weld but I don't know if it held up. I have 3 with the stud and not sure what I would do. Good luck.

Thanks, but I'm going to leave alone. I had a scope on this for a while. I killed a nice buck with it this year. Looks funny with no ERC, but I will have to get a nylon stick to poke out empties. Ruger tech told me it would shoot same with new barrel.

No,, but my experience with Ruger has been,, I pay to ship it there. And parts, labor, return ship has been free! I recently bought a 10.5 " SS. Super Blackhawk that was missing ERC and threaded hole was filled in. Ruger cleaned threads, installed new parts and payed for return ship.

If I had all of the original parts, I would repair it, personally. I bought an NM Blackhawk in .41 Mag back in 1975. It shed the ERH on the third round fired. I reattached it, and it was still in place 10 years later when I sold the gun.

I have all parts. To repair requires silver solder Heat will discolor the blueing. That's why Ruger wants to install barrel that does not use threaded insert.

I wouldn't overlook the possibility of gluing things back in place. I used some stuff called Black Magic to install front and rear sights on a .308 rifle and a 12 ga. riot gun 10 years ago, and everything is still solidly in place. If I want to remove them it'll take heat, but not enough to damage the bluing on either gun. I'd be real leery of changing barrels on a gun that shoots that well.

I've had it happen several times on several guns. Had them all repaired. I could not leave it without the ERH. If you're worried about the cost to re-blue just have it attached and leave it as is. Won't be any uglier than the gun is without the housing.

FYI but Alan Harton put one on for me without re-bluing the barrel. Not sure how he did it, but it is holding so far.
