I'm more in favor of hand held lights, but this is an option.
With something like this you could mount an LED light
to the gun for home defense use (one hand operation).

For lasers, I'd say no, because it only takes a slight shift
to have your "dot" be off by inches at 20 feet and enough
to miss at 25 yards.
I say that from having one laser shift with the frame rail.

I'm always a little suspicious of anything that claims to be a "universal fit". That usually means it doesn't really fit anything in my experience. Besides that, it looks like it would give you some holster problems.

I'm with Rev on this one, I don't like rails in general, but despise them on 1911's.

A rail on a 1911 ? I just threw up in my mouth .....

REV

Kinda agree, but unfortunately my eyes are not what they once were.
I was thinking of maybe getting a trigger guard laser for it I guess I
may go for the grip laser. I'd Prefer a guide rod laser but I found none
for the Ruger. Just checking ALL options. Thanks for the replys. ps

For home defense , a laser is hard to beat. Had a C.T. Laser Grip on a short barreled 686 , awsome defense weapon. Think Id give them a try on a 1911. Good Luck

My attorney (a hunter and a competitive shooter) has always advised that if I ever mounted a light or laser on a defensive gun, I'd need to call a different attorney!

He also said remember three things about using a "modified" gun:
1. This ain't Afganistan.
2. Jurists don't like what they don't understand.
3. If you get convicted, your family still has to pay me.

I will worry about that when or if the time comes. I'll be alive tho!
A modified gun does that include a scoped rifle? This thread is not
about lawyers or court thank you. That kinda help is not what I'm
lookin for. ps

Sorry, the part about "...was wondering what more experienced folks thought of these." must've thrown me. That's why I said "...on a defensive handgun". I don't think either of us were talking about a scope on a rifle?
Personally, I don't think much of those types of frames. But apparently they sell magazines!

Lawyers opinions is not what I expected, I expected to hear about that rail mount along with site.
My main defense gun is a Mosberg 500. This is a fun gun. I never mentioned defense weapon in any of my
post just Rail system accompanied with a laser. Thanks for you lawyers advise tho, I didn't mean to
sound so offensive. ps

BTW I believe your lawyer is full of crap. How could that change the situation at hand.
Especially a Home Invasion Guilty because a rail and a lite on your gun. Give me a brake. ps

lol. My Sig Scorpion 1911 had a rail.

That gun was Sexy. I miss it. Considering the purchase of another to replace it. Had to have an AR10 though.

Not sure how a grip like this, that facilitates the integration of a flashlight, could get you in trouble. That's like saying installing a scope on a rifle makes you a psycho killer sniper. I don't agree with that logic.
