Looking for a place to start. Going to be using Missouri bullet 180gr pug in a 357 scoped GP100 6". Shooting 50yds or under.Hunting Whitetail.

Not familiar with that bullet. I've had good results with 180 Hornady XTP's with H-110. I have taken 2 deer with Barnes 140 grain XTB hollow points, WITH GOOD RESULTS.

It's a wide nose coated lead bullet. Missouri bullet doesn't give load data for their bullets. Not much info online either. Tried Beartooth bullets but can't seem to get to loadswap.

My 627 with my own cast 180 grain RNL would shoot under 1 inch at 25 yards and measured 2.5 inches at 50. I used 4.5 grains of Unique. Start with 4 grains and work you way up until you get your best group.

I would suggest Win 296 or Hodgdon H110 (similar powders) for your 180 gr bullet. Refer to a good reloading manual, or the Hodgdon website for suggested loading weights and muzzle velocities.

What does the OP want to do with this load? Hunt, shoot paper, silhouettes? What is the loa for his bullet, that matters especially with long heavy-for-caliber bullets.

Hornady has data for their jacketed 180-grain bullet in an 8” Python, their starting loads below should be safe in the OP’s revolver.

Loa = 1.590”
9.3 grains AA-9 = 900 fps
10.3 grains 2400 = 900 fps
11.3 grains H-110 = 900 fps
11.9 grains IMR4227 = 900 fps

AzShooter1 any idea of the muzzle velocity?

I was trying to find a load for ICORE shooting and needed around 700 fps. 4.5 was accurate and averaged 749 fps out of my 6 inch revolver. I went up to 5.4 grains and got 937 fps, enough to make Major for USPSA matches and the most accurate load I used.

Another good powder was Vitha Vhouri (SP) 320. 3.8 grains was a light load but also shot 1 inch at 25 yards.

I found my old Handloader's Log and was able to get the data I used. This is not published data from any manufacturer so be very careful if you try to duplicate the loads. I do not recommend them and hold no responsibility if you duplicate my loads. Work up slowly.

I was using a 180 grain rim rock hard cast gas check for hunting, it’s the same bullet that buffalo bore uses in their heavy hunting loads . So with 13 grains of 2400 with a heavy crimp I was getting mid 1300’s over the chronograph. I was close enough to their 1400’ FPS to be happy with it. Killed several deer with that load.

I am pretty sure that loadswap is gone. I heard that Beartooth either sold the business or sold the website and the company that purchased it did not want to continue loadswap.
