As the title says, 162 games. Finally on the 162nd game my Texas Rangers won the AL West. What a season and hopefully a good playoff response. I know a lot of y'all don't like sports but I have been rooting for the Rangers for what seems like a lifetime (actually since 1972) and they have mostly been disheartening but I always root for them. They have a very young team and weren't expected to do much this year. For the naysayers here is a big wet raspberry, pppppffffffffttttttt.

Lets go Rangers...

TitanX: Don't know if you watch baseball but if so, did you see last nights game. Rangers had a 5 run lead in the top of the 9th inning against the Angels and gave it up. AAArrrgghhh. Today they won 9 to 2, guess they figured they better get a good lead. LOL.

BoSox are in a rough AL East. I can't believe Toronto this year, they had a helluva season, going to be tough to beat. KC also had a huge season, 95 wins this day and age are hard to come by.

I have tickets to game 4 of the ALDS, hopefully Texas can win at least one game in Toronto or the first one here???

I'm with you, how I hate the Yankees. Have never had a bad thought for the Red Sox. If you have ever read any of my baseball posts I actually just love the game. I played in school and that kid part of me has never died. It is just to much fun going to the park and eating junk food and drinking a beer or two.

Wolfie and I have made a few non monetary bets in the past with the Giants/Rangers. Of course the Giants beat the Rangers in the World Series (so did the Cardinals). I really don't think they will make it that far this year but?? Maybe. Can't get there if you don't first make the playoffs. Since the BoSox aren't in there maybe root for my Rangers, at least give them a watch, they are fun.

Don't feel bad, I've been a Cubs fan since the mid '50s.

HaHa: I used to listen to Cubs games on the AM radio in southeastern Oklahoma. I could get them on my little transistor radio, I think that might have started my love of baseball. Late 60s on WLS, was one of the few radio stations we could get at night, I would see them on TV everyonce in a while when visiting my grandparents on WGN. I remember waking up to static in the morning. Something about the late evening let me get the signal. I still love the Cubbies, I sure wish they could make the Series. As I said, I love all things baseball, I am a Rangers fan but all of baseball is fun. Except the Yankees. Rangers/Cubs World Series, what do ya think?? Cool.

Hi,

I don't follow sports that much, but it seems they ALL get tangled up in this "We paid way too much for way too little" thing more than they should!

Many years ago I worked with a fellow for a while who'd played "professional" baseball for a while as a minor league/farm team player. He said when he played those guys barely made enough money to pay the rent. Now, I'm sure teams can afford a little better than that today, but something inside me still says maybe pro sports should make ALL their players "Work for a living" long enough to prove what they've got in 'em, instead of offering do many huge starting contracts to flash in the pan type players.

I'm sure that's a pretty controversial idea in the front offices, but someone told me as a kid that digging a well is the only job where you start at the top. And that's the way it seems most of the "greats" I admired as a kid developed, working their way up. 'Tis just a thought...

Well, no not working OT on Sunday but I work a triple shift on Sat. and am a zombie come Sunday. Usually just relax and work around the farm on Sun. to kind of rest up. I just hope they win at least one game in Toronto so we have the chance to go to the game on Mon.. On another side, I sure hope the Astros can whoop up on the Yankees. I always rooted for the Astros when they were in the NL. It must be a Texas thing. :D

Lets Go Rangers

Hi,

Quite true, Karl! And I was thinking about you guys as we drove by the Tivoli pub yesterday morning, too!

Friends had two cars entered in an annual show at the Embarcadero park (other side of the Convention Center from Petco Park.) It rained like crazy on and off, so the show was kinda minimal. If you'd have been there, we could have hidden from the rain for a while at Tivoli, but suggesting that idea to some good Baptists on a Sunday didn't seem quite like the right idea! ;)
