Yeah, it was a disgrace to America, a slaughter is never to any nations credit. Whenever I watch Dances With Wolves, I am always for the Sioux in the movie.
A much nobler people than the Army troops, who were profane; and there is a real element of truth there; at least in that instance.

As I am part Cherokee,,, I have studied a lot of our history where it concerns the Native Americans. As such,, it is WHY I truly distrust a lot of our government folks.
Those are sad dates for sure.

Wounded Knee was just one disaster suffered by Native Americans over more than 300 hundred years. My own family, including my parents and ancestors, have suffered continuously. Even my wife and I were not legally able to live in some states before 1968 due to Democrat originated and continued laws before abolished by the Supreme Court in 1968. My own father lost his lively hood and land he owned in Oklahoma in 1936 by Roosevelt and the Democrat New Deal laws that stole our farm. As a child we were prevented from moving to and living in certain states after we left Oklahoma.

I myself am a native my mother is on the roles I received benefits till age 18 my children did not! This was started by a fellow calling him self Dixie Boy? Was this Indian wars much different than the civil war. As far as any of this goes it dose not compare to what the tribal government pulls on its own people it has to be the worst most corrupt bunch that there is , And the the last 8 years has made it worse. There is meath of some kind in over 70% of tribal homes the people do not need any more pity or government hand outs and it is time for it all to end! Im sure that there are more than a few brain washed members that will disagree with me they have gotten used to the hand outs and the government bailing out every single business we start it is only the few corrupt members that get any thing. It is time to end the reservations along with all the rest of the "Groups " everyone is supposed to be equal? They wont be as long as this goes on . I hate to say it but you guys sound like you are running for the democrat party.

This can be a VERY emotional subject. Some good background reading material would be "In a Barren Land" by Paula Mitchell Marks, "Custer Died for your Sins" by Vine Deloria Jr. and of course "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" by Dee Brown. And some real life experience of living on a res. There are lots of issues and the solutions are NOT simple or easy. Enjoy! 8)

Sins of white men pass as tragic as they are I personally do not feel responsibility!
That said I am in favor of righting any wrong that is possible, loss of life is not possible.

HMMM; Many of the Osage Tribe in Oklahoma made out great with "Head Rights" from all the oil found on their reservation, Had a band director in High School that was Osage and had several head rights he had inherited and he drove a NEW car ever couple of years. The "Tribe" now has a big casino on the reservation. It was a member of the Cherokees that was a partner in the first commercial oil well (In Bartlesville, OK) and the family is still there (The Keeler family, I went to HS with one of them). What's funny is that when the feds took away OK as "INDIAN TERRITORY" they gave the tribes what they "thought" were the worst locations in the State; Guess where they found the oil !!
