10/22 trigger pull

Anyone else have problems with the trigger pull on the 10/22. Mine must be at least 5 lb pull. Ilooked up a new trigger assembly from midway, they want 199.00. Any other way to bring the pull to 2lbs or less yourself? any info would be great thank you. :?:

I lightened my 10-22 with a Voltquartsen hammer kit for 25 bucks from Midway from stock 6 pounds to about 3. Don't need the entire assembly. Still has a bit too much creep but much better. Better yet, buy a Savage with an Accutrigger and you don't have to change a thing.

I had 6 done.
my trigger pull test is that I could lift the carbine with finger on trigger without firing prior.
now just lifting a 16" barrel and action fires the trigger

For a complete drop-in assembly, Hornet is the best bang for the buck.... several to choose from.

Reduce the depth of the hammer hook so that it does not 'hook' over the sear.

I actually increase the angle of the sear, keeping the hammer hook angle the same. This will yield around a 3# pull. IMHO, 2# is too light for most work.

Kidd just put their trigger kits on sale for 89.00. If you have a poly housing this is the best option for 10/22 trigger groups. Get the spring kit if you order. Really easy to get 1 1/2 pull or lighter with No take up or creep. Breaks like glass.

+1 for going with the Volquartsen hammer. I have done this with most of mine. I do have a Kidd trigger assembly, but they are over $200.00.

I haven't tried Brimstone, but have heard lots of good feedback from those that have. Thinking of sending them my 10/22 TD for theis trigger job.

The fact is the factory trigger on the 10/22 is just awful.... I vote on the Voltquartsen kit for around $50 or so..I've put two or three in and they make a world of difference. Of course a new entire trigger assembly is the ideal but I'm like you and that is a little pricey for me these days....

I did down load from Rimfire Central a while back the instructions on how to smooth out and lighten the trigger on the 10/22 yourself. but at least the file I printed out.... basically told me it was going to take a half day to learn how to do it and then another day to actually do the first one and I have not had the time or inclination to do that.... Lot easier to spend 40-50 bucks and an hour to do the change out.

I do think it is best to do this kind of work the first time with two of the same gun.... that way you have a 2nd trigger group still intact to compare with ... and remind you how those springs and other parts are supposed to go back together.

26 oz on my beater 10/22 with only a Volquartson target hammer "blem" - was $25 MOL back then. I since put that target hammer [but didn't find cheap blems] in the other three(3) 10/22 I had - 2 were right at 2#, the other 2.5#.

My beater gets shot a lot..great rifle.
