10-22 question

Does anyone have recommendations for a 'softer' action spring for use with sub-sonic ammo? I sort of remember seeing various 'weights' sold by one of the parts companies but can't remember which. Thanks

I got some Kidd action springs in a package deal with some Ruger factory mags - it's a set of 3, with one -10%, one OEM equivalent, and one +10%. I can't really recommend them (because I've never used them), but they are an available option.

I put a Kidd spring in my sporter years ago. Can't remember which one I am using or cost at that time. Check his website he makes a bunch of stuff for the action. I remember trying one of the 3 springs and had failures, so installed another and it works. I only shoot high velocity ammo.

Yes, Kidd is the answer.
I installed a light weight spring along with one of their extractors & a soft bolt buffer pin. The soft spring helps with SV ammo & with the buffer it just fine IMO to shoot HV with the soft spring. The extractor just made the whole world a better place.

I have a suppressed 10/22 and a suppressed MK II pistol (amphibian).
With both the 10/22 and the MK II I can fire the gun (Using full power .22's) and hold the bolt closed. Super quite!

Sometimes I just don't know, and this is one of them. I'm lost. I can't imagine an actual recoil problem with sub-sonic .22s - I use them often - so I'm guessing the "softer" spring may have an effect on what minimal noise there is, but have no understanding on how this could be. I am not disagreeing, I am just looking for knowledge. Thanks in advance.

The purpose of the lighter spring is to let the gun cycle reliably with subsonic ammo.

The lower power rounds,sub sonic, quieter rounds may not have the force to cycle the action with the heavy spring.Less powder. Thus the light or soft spring with the light round. The spring has little or nothing to do with noise. Lighter rounds like the cheep Federal bulk from Walmart won't cycle some of my semi autos but will in others.

I never thought of it because only used subsonics in bolt action rifles. Experience is knowledge- thank you!

I use full powder 22LR rounds in my suppressed 10/22 and my suppressed MKII pistol (amphibian) (AWC makes great suppressors!) They both eject just fine. But if I don't want the shell on the floor of the back porch, I just hold the bolt closed then manually eject it!

Really makes little difference how good your suppressor is if the bullet makes a sonic pop.

My experience is any .22 load rated at 1250fps or less will be subsonic from most pistols (i.e., up to about 6" of barrel). Rifles are obviously a different case.

My experience with 3 suppressors of different design on Ruger pistols of 4-5.5" barrel length using 4 brands of HV ammo. ALL the HV bullets delivered a sonic signature significantly louder than sub-sonic bullets. Even SV ammo often exceeds speed of sound threshold on 15-20% of shots. Maybe still is just a unique collection of results but this is what I see.

I just bought a package deal of several KIDD springs (+10% & -10%) plus some odds and ends of new take-off parts from an ebay seller. One of my 10-22's action rod had been slightly tweeked by the previous owner so that gets replaced and the 10-22's that are used with sub-sonics get new -10% springs and fresh stop buffers. Since I just discovered another case (5000) of RWS sub-sonic, this makes life .
