I have a chance to purchase a 10/22 with the skeleton stock. In average condition, what is this gun worth? All I want it for is to keep in my truck and plink around. Would I be better off just going to Walmart and buying a 10/22 there? If so, why? Thanks

Some folks get all worked over stocks... of one sort or another. For me it's folders... but in the end, unless it is a real good deal, with a 10/22 buying a new one is not a bad way to go.... then again I would not purchase from Walmart and the other issue might be the one you are looking at with the skeleton stock might be older and have the all metal trigger group. which the metal trigger group housing would make it worth 20-50 dollars more.

If it's just a "truck gun" is it a big deal what model it is? Buy whichever suits the need and whichever fits the wallet. That being said...$155-180 for the used one mentioned. I too would certainly not go to Walmart - support the local shop! Saving a few dollars isn't always a benefit.

Buying from your local WalMart isn't a bad way to go. They employ a LOT of people in the community who otherwise YOU probably would be supporting.

A used 10/22 can be a rare find in a gun shop. When you do find one they are usually in the $160+/- $20 range for a basic blued, Birch stocked carbine. Add accordingly for any (desireable or reselable) feature like stock upgrades, accessories, stainless finish, 22" barrel etc. Don't pay extra if your just going to strip the gun for a project build. Recievers and new rifles can be had for $160-$200 if you shop smart.

And those people likely know little to nothing about what they're selling and will not have any answers after the sale. You're a # to them, nothing more.
