10/22 newbie; QC issues annoying

Hi Guys,
I have 7 Ruger handguns. This is my first 10/22 rifle (used to have a mini-14). The new rifle checked out fine in function and disassembly. Have not shot it yet.

But noticed a couple of flaws that really bothered me from a cosmetic point-of-view. Yeah, I only paid $290.00 (with taxes & fees included already), but still...

1st is the dings at the muzzle end, though the crown is fine.

2nd is the way the rear sight was drifted into the barrel dovetail. Seems like it was just hammered in without thought given to the fit between the two. As you can see, the dovetail kinda' peeled upward because it was so tight.

Are these common with the 10/22's. I'm especially annoyed by the dings on the muzzle. Have u guys seen this before and is there a fix for this?

$290.???? What??? I think that's a bit over priced to begin with.

The small dings on the muzzle won't affect anything I wouldn't be concerned about them. After a few trips to the range you won't even notice those.

The dovetailed "flare" is pretty common and nothing to be concerned about in fact, if it didn't have some flare I'd be more concerned since I've seen sights that were fitted too well and didn't have a flare but later fell out of the gun.

I'd be more concerned if you found it didn't pass a function check.

Have you ever seen the rifles our service members get? You'd think that 10-22 was a Mercedes.LOL

As noted above, not that bad at all really, besides it is the 'stainless' steel barrel and they do tend to show MORE galling, burrs, tool cutoff marks and on and on...........if it was blued ( dark) it would NOT be as noticeable....mass production, NOT hand made & fitted...is it "perfect" ,,,,no...but I've seen dozens MORE , far worse..................I can show you 'mistakes' and faux pas on shotguns and rifles that run into the "thousands" of dollars...............

Uh, it's a Ruger, not a Cooper. Threads like this are a little perplexing to me. Firstly, it is basically an inexpensive plinker. Flaws like that are to be expected from virtually any mass produced firearm under $1000. Secondly, if little things like this stick in your craw, why do you not find them before you take it home???

Maybe a VQ would be more to your taste, but expect to pay something like $1,200.00 to START out.

Don't worry be happy, your pain will subside when you shoot it!
I feel the other posts are accurate, remember, this is not the turn of the century and these rifles did not come came from the smith & wesson or winchester facility. There was a lot more hand craftsmanship then in their .22 rifles as you can see even today. Ruger makes an excellent product and I give their customer service high marks. I have returned guns via dealerships with no problems. My latest return was a 10/22 TAC version. {someone tried to put the rails on and stripped the threads.} If the crown dissaster is still bothering you in several weeks, we'll just do a 1/2"x28TPI thread job. You can do that, keep your original front site and use a compensator. If your going to use a scope, precision 32 has the right idea, cantilever mount.

I was cleaning my PC9 over the weekend and looked at the area around the crown... your's is dern pretty compared to mine... but then the dings and rust on that rifle are probably mostly from me. I was climbing mountains, crawling through the brush and under fences with it that morning. I have to be honest on the few brand new guns I've bought (and they were all Rugers) I don't think I ever took the time to look that close... I was in too much of a hurry to get to the range and break em in.

Thanks guys for the input and perspective. Yeah I am excited to shoot it, hopefully by this weekend. I guess I just wasn't sure if this was just common. I have 3 mark II's and none of them have that on the muzzle. Life goes on...
