10/22 barrel on 77/22?

Sorry if this has been asked before but I couldn't find anything.
Will a 10/22 bbl fit on a 77/22, or are they completely different animals? I traded for another 77/22 the other day, with a pretty rough, on the outside, barrel. I see the 10/22 bbls for sale quite a bit so thought if it will interchange..... If not I need to reblue the bbl that's on it. Thanks!

Nope, the 10/22 barrel has a shorter shank (Same diameter though).

here are a couple of photos comparing the two barrel shanks. besides the shank lenght, you would need to cut a breech notch for the shell holder that the 1022 barrel doesn't have

IIRC
You can put a 77/22 on a 10/22 by using a shim and the second extractor cut makes no diff but you can't go 10 to 77.

Also, but I don't know for sure, but I heard that newer 77/22s are threaded into the reciever. not sure how you would tell, possible there would not be a barrel retention block
