10/22 Balance

Trying to find a good stock for my 10/22 and maintain balance. I just purchased a Kidd 20" .920 Match Bull SS barrel. Workmanship looks awesome and can't wait to fit it to the stock receiver. It is a little heavier than I pictured. I'm trying to match the stock for a more balanced feel. I'm ruling out skeletonized stocks as they may end up being too muzzle heavy. I'm looking at a Boyd's Thumbhole or similar solid laminate. I'm imagining that a Hogue is a little heavier and may be a better choice.

Input on that?

My goal is a well built target rifle with the possibility of local competition for cold beverages. I've never modded a rifle (or handgun) and looking to cut my teeth on a 10/22 for the simple fact that most things are drop in.

I'm sure that if you Google "Ruger 10/22 stocks" it will come up with a lot of dealers that make or sell stocks. I plan to put a wood stock on a TD sometime in the future and will be looking for a set.

Thanks for the tips. I've been googleing and searching for days. I'd like to hear from the more experienced and those with a similar setup. Is there a difference between a Boyd and a Volquartsen to justify triple the price? I'm guessing not unless I were a high level competitor; which I'm not.

If you're worried about muzzle-heaviness, you can drill a hole in the butt of a wood stock and fill it with fishing sinkers or something of the sort until you get the balance you want.

Just installed a Blackhawk Axxiom on mine. Way lighter than stock and my 9 yr old loves it, esp the pistol grip. We haven't had the chance to shoot it because of the wet weather we've been having.
