10/22 ammo question...

I bought my first 10/22 April 21, 1987, new $75. I've put thousands of rounds through it and as long as I've had good mags it runs flawless. Stingers, HP, solid points work great. Ramline mags I bought back then lasted a couple decades. Last year I bought a 10/22 Takedown, it's still an incredibly fun, reliable rifle. Buy one.

Every rifle, to some extent, will display a preference for a certain brand and type of ammunition. With some rifles, there is an extreme difference.
There is no way to predict how any given rifle will perform, or what it's ammunition preference will be.... you just have to try different stuff until you find something you like.

I have owned two 10/22's and the only ammo negatives were with the Remington Yellow Jacket hollow points because the "truncated cone" wouldn't feed like the round point types.

Do you mean function or accuracy?
If you mean function, most 10/22s seem to run okay on almost anything (there are always exceptions).
If you mean accuracy, then yes, you can expect your 10/22 will be more accurate with some ammos than others. Sadly, no one can tell you what brand YOUR gun will like; you will have to test everything you can find to see.

I've had several 10/22s none of which were functionally picky on ammo.
I've had numerous Ruger 22 auto pistols, none of which were functionally picky either.
I've had numerous Ruger 22 auto pistols, none of which were functionally picky either.
From a "function" standpoint, the only problems I've ever had were with subsonic ammo.... just not enough ooomph to cycle the action. Long term, some types af ammunition will gunk up the action or lead up the rifling unless cleaned regularly and thoroughly.
