The only ammo related issues I know of is the use of Stingers in a Ruger match barrel. The cartridge case is longer than normal 22 LR ammo and can hit and stick in the rifling. Other than that, a standard 10-22 should run about anything you can feed it.
I have seen rifles that will have problems with hollow points catching on the edge of the chamber. Some rifles feed HP with no problems, some have issues.

I'd steer clear of Remington "Thunderbolt" ammo.... far too many reports of severe leading with folks using this stuff. Clean the barrel, shoot different ammo, and the problem never comes back.... pretty convincing evidence.

I've had my current 10/22 for about 6 months. I've used 3-4 different brands of ammo with it from Stingers to Remington Sub Sonic. I've had one fail to feed with the Sub Sonic. I blame the ammo but it was probably caused by just the occasional plain old fail to feed.
I would also stay away from thr Remmington Thunderbolt. It is just dirty. Otherwise yeah, the gun will probably function with most ammo; but of course be more accurate with some than others. Sometimes Federal bulk is your best bet.

I've had good results with a wide range of 10/22 fodder. The most common issue in my own use, has been the failure to fire despite strong hit by the firing pin. This seems to be in the "about 2%" range and to the large green Remmie box of high velocity.

m657, not to hyjack the thread, but if you have failure to fire issues check the firing pin protrusion. It should be 0.025" minimum to 0.035" maximum.

Little late to the party, but I found that mine didn't like Winchester standard velocity ammo. It appears to be because of the solid lead bullet. Just wouldn't feed. I bought these particular ones in 2008, but that shouldn't matter.
