Like I said (which I stand by) if you’re a gun guy and I hear ‘need’ you’ve already put yourself in a hole as a non credible source.

Well, I may "Need" a claymore that I can string behind the entryway, but the DA has a different opinion. Shooting intruders is one thing, laying traps and deadfalls is another.
Yet to have and not need is always preferred to need and not have. JMHO YMMV.
You know, ammunition expended and runway behind you.

Yep, an AR-15 with 30 rounds of subsonic 300 BLK will giterdun, as will an AR-9 with 30 rounds of 9mm 147's
My favorite PCC is my AR-45, but capacity is limited to 14
Still might penetrate some wallboard, but less than supersonic anything, and much easier on the ears

Shotgun. 15+2 Brenneke slugs. Compensator. Shake Awake Holosun. Very low recoil compared to a pump.
In actual use (hunting), I have to say the 300BO with sub-sonic expanding ammo often shows some serious overpenetration. A few years back Grand daughter shot completely through two deer standing side by side @50 yards using 300BO Hornady sub-sonic hunting ammo.
The AR above my bed is a 9mm, 8" barrel with muffler. It produces good expansion of 147 grain sub-sonic w/o excessive(?) overpenetration but it sure won't be stopped by a couple layers of sheetrock.
If you have neighbors 20' away, my only suggestion is shotgun w/target loads.
Once upon a time, I was called to help an older local man with a 'down cow'. When I arrived, it was apparent the problem was a broken hind leg for which there was no fix. The old man was pretty emotional but produced a beat up old 20 gauge single shot and TWO shells (all he had) so I knew I had to make the best of the situation. Seeing how attached he was to the cow, I was hesitant to shoot her in the head. I sent the old man around the corner and took careful aim to direct the shot charge between two ribs and into the heart. One and done. Just saying one shouldn't discount the terminal effect or capability of 7/8 ounce of #6 shot at close range.

Well now you fellas have made me feel even older. I have an AR and some other doodads, HKs and even a couple striker fired pistols but when something goes "bump" in the night this is what is in my hand. I don't need lights or lasers or high capacity mags, at least where I live. I might take them with me when I travel or out and about but again in my home on the night stand it's this. It's like pointing my finger and within my house it's my choice. Besides I can beat the living 
out of an uninvited guest with it. Isn't it great to have choices?

AND, you can carry it with you whilst jumping out of a second story window and landing on your A/C compressor....Well now you fellas have made me feel even older. I keep a .40 Short and Weak in my headboard, but I live in the country. I could use a .50 BMG if I wanted to.

I don't have an AR, 15 or otherwise. The closest I have is this. I reckon it'll do me. 
I really like the finish on that 'not really SBR'.... how come the slide on your Glock matches the frame... doesn't on mine?
any who.... I misplaced my 'SBR/pistol' it seems sometime in the last 2 months since I broke my ankle and ended up spending over 30 minutes looking for the dern thing.... it used to be in a special semi-hidden place in my work van and also has a special hidden place here at home but was not in either and also not in with my other evil black assault rifles... had almost come to the conclusion I had left it in the van unlocked and some midnight zombies had taken it...they come through every month or so checking for unlocked cars and such, .....happend to glance over beside the stool at my man space bar and there the dern thing was....
TNW-ASR survival rifle (actually this is the pistol version, 10.5" barrel) ... currently chambered in 357 sig... but with barrel conversion (takes about 6 seconds and covert to 9mm, 40 call or 10mm....that's a Glock 32c under it.
Oh, and the TNW pistol has a laser on it and the Glock has a one in it too.... needed for night time home defense....
That Glock came from a family member who used to be in the Idaho State Police. I only bought it to help him out financially, and if he ever wants it back he can buy it for what he sold it to me.
Just to repeat myself, I'm not a fan of Glocks... used to be rabid anti and really hated the way they look... still do... but I do have to say they don't look nearly as bad once you own one or two or three....

Not to contribute to the thread drift..... I own two Glocks. The first one, the G17 shown above in #31, I bought to help someone out, I then added the AR-9 to match. The other one I own is a reverse case to the 9mm. I wanted a companion to my LCC-45, so bought a G41
I've got extended mags for these two also, it is my "other" SHTF combo.

my SKS-M with a 30 rounder hangs off a hook right by my head... It's killed bears and porcupines... doesn't cause blackouts when you shoot it without muffs.. I also have my Ruger 44 on my headboard.....
Well you talk about home defense but where you live and on how much property might best define the best.
Many people now in cities live in row houses or apartments. Not sure how many calls guys and I went to that where about bullets coming through walls, floors, ceilings from neighbors. Even trailer parks from one unit to another.
Neighbors firing empty guns or cleaning empty guns. Some showing off empty guns that fired. I think any caliber will get through to neighbors in that saturation.
What ever you use in your home might go through the walls, floor, ceiling or roof. Should you buy a gun, caliber and ammo that might not. I can't make that call.
I have never been attacked in my home but my life is the most important, I will use what ever I have to defend it. Not worried about a bullet going through it.

's about whether a bullet may pass through a wall or three, when there is a direct threat to me in my home.Even buckshot will penetrate into the next room. There is no "safe" solution in that respect, but perhaps for laser beams or BB guns.
