Looking for an EDC

My daughter is moving into a new apartment and has decided on confiscating my SP101. This leaves me down to a 3" GP100. While I will carry it in the interim, I'm looking for something a little lighter for long term daily.

I'm leaning towards a lcr, should I go 38/357 or 327?

Bought the LCR9mm when it first came out in production. And NEVER looked back. I love shooting the Snub's so this gun has saved me a lot of money. However the 38 is Lighter to carry. Most of the time I carry the 642.

Any reason the 9mm doesn't get carried?

It gets plenty of carry, but many days just go for the lighter gun. I love the Moon clips on the LCR for EDC. Very convenient. Also the LCR9mm is my woods gun.(for two legged predators.)
The moon clips go into a empty Pill bottle for protection against getting wet etc.

Also this arrived the other day and already loving it.

This combo has some merit. The thumb falls naturally to the lip push holster from gun

I vote for the J Frame S&W. I like my Colt Cobra alloy frame. I know this is a Ruger forum. I am not that familiar with their lightweight .38s.

S&W J-frame is always legit choice. Good option if you would not prefer a SP 101

Walking through Buds Guns in Sevierville, last Thursday, I saw this there for $399. I thought I was buying a Mod 638, turns out it's a 38-2. Shoots great! Yes, I know, I'll trim the grip screw, it's not that it's happy to see me.... So this J frame has no lock but has the "fancy, new fangled" speed cylinder release, but still has the symmetrical shaped ejector star. About where would that put this model, mid-80's? Gee, the "Wheel 'O Smith & Wesson" days...

BUT, I have had two LCR .357s in the past and if I had a chance to have another LCR? It would be the .38, the weight difference is significant enough. And with the Ruger/Hogue Boot grips.

I'd likely just pick up another SP 101. Had an LCR in 357 couldn't get rid of it fast enough. Like my SP's for 38 or 357. 158grains in 357 is doable in the SP. If I just want to shoot 38's then perhaps I would look at the LCR in 38 or a S&W. A snub revolver in 9mm seems interesting. Yet, I have not bought one, yet. I know the SP--Like the SP--Shoot the SP well---what else do I need?

When I retired from my agency, I chose to continue to carry my primary off duty sidearm, a compact Glock in .357 Sig. I recognize my chances of getting into a confrontation are significantly reduced. That being said, old habits die hard. I carry extended magazines (15 rounds). I recently added a Glock model 30 in 45 ACP and carry an extended magazine (13 rounds). Again old habits are hard to break. I carried a 45 as my duty sidearm for a long time.

The weight for either is about the same.

I appreciate this. I tend to wear slacks and an untucked polo, I'm sure I can conceal a decent amount of bulk.

Of my LCR9mm vs my Smith 642, I would get rid of the 642 before the 9mm. For myself, given the fact that I shoot often the LCR9mm has been a huge saving on ammo. Yes, about 3oz heavier, but at 17 oz's is not more than most Micro's. When I head to the range, I bring both guns and will shoot them side by side. The 9mm will get the most rounds fired that day because of the cost of ammo is so much cheaper. I typically shoot 150-200 rds of 9mm and 50 rds of the 38. I also shoot the 9mm better and find it more enjoyable. Recoil for me, is about the same. The 9mm is just smoother and of course I love the trigger. And once again, I am SOLD on the Moon clips. So nice to go to the range and have 40-50 ready to go and so easy to load and bring home.
Also I like the fact that I can get a variety of ammo. Much more available than 38. And I like the ballistics. There is a ton of information out there on 9mm ballistics in a Snub compared to the 380
Another fact is the LCR9mm has that Ruger toughness. A gun really built like a tank. Many times I find it hard to believe that I have fired so many rounds through this gun and it still trucking along. (Have had it since it first came out) I always have a huge stash of 9mm, very little 38.

38 Vs 9mm? Here is just one example.

Why not an SP101 in .327? The new Lipsey’s 3-inch is a dream to shoot and carry. And if you do choose to pick up an LCR in .327 later, it’d make a great ankle BUG.

I have enjoyed my LCR 357 - # 1 fire power of the 357 and shooting a 38 in the heavier framed 357 LCR is so easy on the hand.
