My JT PPP showed up today around noon, so I anxiously watched the clock waiting for quitting time.
I got to the LGS and opened the box like a kid at Christmas and there was at first glance a beautiful 4-5/8” SS Bisley. I picked it up and the Tyler grip panels looked like they were fit to the gun by a child with a severe vision problem! They were horrible, one side has a large gap at the top of the grip frame, the other has a large gap and the locator pin is visible. The only way something could leave like this is a complete lack of Quality Control! Haven’t seen anything this bad since the final years of Remington before bankruptcy!
Anyway, it will be back on its way to Ruger Monday for another attempt at it.

That would sure hurt my feelings. I hope this is not a leading indicator of Ruger's directions. I'm a customer and a stockholder.
I wasn’t expecting the fit you would get out of Bowen or Reeder, but I darn sure wasn’t expecting the grips to be fit by Wal mart either! I’m sure the one they gave to John was certainly fit well!

I sure HOPE the gun they gave John was well fit. He has been a great contributor to our past time, and I wouldn't want to see him disappointed. I know the grips in your photo would disappoint him and for this reason on top of the rest I hope your gun was the one bad egg out of the whole basket. Ruger has done so much to turn out better quality, well fit guns. I'm really sad to see the occasional "How did this get through" example. I imagine they are struggling with maintaining a quality workforce along with the rest of the nation, but sheesh. . .

That's pretty bad. I can fit grips better than that. In fact, I can fit grips better than the factory.
All it takes is small wood files, sand paper, wood stain, and BLO. Plus patience. Lots of patience.

Dang, those are almost as bad as my SS Lipsey's FT 44 Spl.

I'm with you...I sure hope this slipped thru the cracks while the QC person was in the head

Ruger simply can't/won't control tolerances on stainless Bisley grip frames. Obvious with this & they've been this way since day one. I was one of the first kids on the block to get a Stainless Bisley when they came out. Same with it, not a set of ready made grips in the country were anywhere near a decent fit.
It was first blamed on the grip maker. First Lett, then Altimont. Now another maker with same issues, it becomes obvious where the problem lies. Some frames are better than others, but if you'd think if they were going to try harder at any time it would have been with a special edition.
It's been hit or miss since day one, ya might see some good ones, but they all won't be.

As noted by bullthrower,, this is unacceptable. And he truly had a rough day,, hitting a cow.

But I disagree with the comment that Lipsey's should add QC to their job. Thousands of guns would have to be checked prior to shipping. And this would entail unboxing, unwrapping, inspecting, re-packing, and re-boxing. Time, and the cost for several employees to do just that one thing. Lipsey's is the distributor,, not the manufacturer. And the person assembling the grips to the gun at Ruger screwed up. Period.

I had a similar experience on a plain vanilla .357 NM Blackhawk two or three years ago. It came with the standard hard rubber grips and the fit to the grip frame was horrible. Ruger sent me another set of grips and they were equally bad. I had a set of laminated grips from an earlier project and they fit a little better, so I put those on and kept shooting. That revolver also shoots high with the lowest rear sight blade.

These are the laminated grips on the same revolver...

The fit is still not great, but it is a little better than what it was.

I have earlier Blackhawk revolvers with a much better fit than this. Ruger has lost their way. One would think they ought to be able to manage nominal dimensions and the tolerances on those dimensions better. I tried to explain that to the customer service person, but I had the impression it was a futile attempt.

Ole HeiferThrower2500, just doesn’t roll off the tongue!
@gunzo has a very good point about the grip frames on the SS Blackhawks. I’m not an expert at machining by any stretch but after they are cast they must run through a CNC of some type to true up the grip frame. With the technology today you would think that every one of them would be very close to identical but I have also noticed SS Bisley grip frames seem to differ. Doesn’t seem to be an issue with any of the other guns like the Redhawks or SP101’s. Regardless the guy putting on the grips should have stopped and said “someting wong” and dang sure final QA/QC should have culled it out! The days of quality craftsmanship and pride in one’s work seem to be fading away as fast as a cake at Rosie O’donnels house.

So disappointing to see this! I just got a call from my lgs yesterday they were able to get me one. should be here next week. Went from super excited to worried after seeing this poor fit up. I Picked up the new 41 mag flat top the other day and the cylinder has a bit of front to back movement and has a noticeable drag line on the cylinder just from the gun shop inspecting it. All i have done is clean it haven't even shot it yet.

Grip fit is normally poor on most Ruger SAs ... which is why I always fit custom grips to my shooters. That said, the above is completely unexceptionable grip fit from the factory. Hope Ruger makes it right.

Ouch, I got one of the 41’s on order also! If it is a turd I will not buy another. Freedom Arms is a buy once cry once revolver and I have never heard of one slipping through the cracks so to speak.

I agree, to a certain extent, but the early SS bisleys from Accusport, and up until about ten years ago, were very much better than what we’ve been seeing the last ten years. They must have switched to new molds, or something, because they are thicker, front to back, and leave a lot of real estate outside the grip panels, whereas the earlier guns tended to mostly conform to the grip panel shape pretty well. I mostly see extra metal hanging out the bottom of the grip panels on the early guns, but the back and front straps are pretty clean. I have relatively short fingers, and with the newer guns, and I have to move my palm around a bit to get on trigger properly.

I read someone make the argument that they just ruger changed grip panel vendors, and the grip panels were just smaller. However, that is not the case. Well, they did change grip panel vendors. The grip panels are the same.

This does not surprise me.
QC at Ruger is you the customer!
Ruger Customer Service & Return Time is reasonable.
BUT WHY!!!
Recently bought one of the 41Flattops, brought it home, started to clean it, and ohhhh what a disaster. Pulled the cylinder and this is the kind of crap discovered. Cylinder 3 dgt. engraving did not match up, put the cylinder back in to check EP/CG,,, 11/13k. The as usual now poor fitting grips, missing one cap head grip screw. Way over ground poorly crafted ERH. Rear sight screw and sight had big scratch,,, like the screwdriver slipped off, and the grip frame to cylinder frame fittest looked as if they were teaching a class to the DEI employees.

Sent it to Ruger on 1/3 got it back 1/26, with a new cylinder, EP/CG 3/5, replaced the ERH with a not so ground up one. Replaced the rear sight & screw,,, and then polished the gun up to try and cover up the rest of the crap. IT LOOKS LIKE CRAP!!!

Don't really like bashing on Ruger but have had to come to the conclusion that what they are really selling is a assembled parts kit.
I can fix it, and have already started. Stainless is easy. Buy a Blued gun "kit"and ask them to re-blue it after you fix, I highly doubt that will happen.

Another interest in fact; I have a set of the second generation Pink Rose wood grips, the last of the LETT production. Put them on and they fit remarkably close, a little here & there and there just about perfect. WHY WHY WHY can't we get grips that fit, versus some real perty wood that no body wants?
