Time For A MKII

I've not had a Ruger semi .22 for a few years now so when the opportunity popped up to take a MKII in trade I jumped in. I had a set of grips I'd been wanting to use so it had to be a MKII. I ordered up the full competition kit from Volquartsen and reacquainted myself with the full teardown and rebuild which took all three hands but in the end came out fine. Shoots like a dream and scratched the itch just fine.

Totally agree, I have a blue Government Model, a ss standard and two anniversary models.

the Mark II is just about perfect, and yet ,still can be "improved" upon like this 'Clark Custom' from a few years ago , with Bomar sights and trigger work......ahhh yes:cool:(y)
wish I could shoot as well as this gun can and Lord knows what the cost for the work is today.....hhhhmmm:unsure:;)

I started a small hoard of MKII's when MKIII's came out. I figured they weren't gonna get cheaper they weren't making any more of them.

The MKIV although unnecessary is pretty nice. It definitely drove down the value of MKII’s.

The MKII is the best of the series. The pinnacle of the design. And so many cool variations.

All started when guns started “running”.
My dog and cats run, my lawnmower, sometimes but my guns shoot, cycle or operate.

I don't mind (I may even prefer) the European heel release on the MKII's.

On the 22/45 the American button makes sense as a trainer for a 1911.

The 22/45 gets my vote for (almost) ultimate .22 automatic. I just wish they had redesigned the magazines. Instead of re using the body of a standard magazine. And the ridiculous base plate.

We are getting off track.

I agree, the mag release is the only improvement the Mk II needed, although I have gotten pretty proficient with using the heel release over time. I have 4 Mk IIs in my collection, covering a variety shooting options, as you can see in this pic.

The Target is fitted with a FastFire 3 red dot and the 22/45 and Competition Target have Williams Firesights. With these 4, and the possibility of switching barrels, I am ready for almost any type of shooting you can think of. (The SR22 was my bow to a "modern" semi-auto, and is the only other .22 rimfire semi-auto pistol I own.)

With this set, and a Single-Six and 10/22, I've got .22LR covered!
 
I have a mk2 and a mk3. The mk3 has had the LCI removed, mag safety removed, PB mag release and sliced up hammer replaced with mk2 style parts, and a better sear installed.

Now, what makes it any different than my mk2? Only the keyed safety lock. That's the only thing I like better about the mk3 than the mk2. It beats the pants off of a trigger lock, padlock, or a cable lock IMO.
 
I just love the MKII. My favorites have always been the bull barrel models. I had a Government model in blued steel and sold it thinking I would find one like it in stainless steel, but never have. I actually almost prefer the 5.5 inch bull bbl I think. I have two now and will not let them get away from me.

It is not recognized as being secure in some places. So to me it is useless. But I’m glad you like it and use it.

What places are you referring to? I could very easily prove to any judge that my mk3 with only the safety lock is more secure than any mk2 secured with a trigger lock or a padlock. I can easily put a round on target with either of those "approved" safety devices.

The cable lock is equal to my lock, but it is not any "more secure".
 
Massachusetts doesn’t consider it locked. There may be other places. It’s not a key it’s a tool. Keys are unique.
