Black rifles on magazine shelves?

I have just recently gotten into AR15 types of rifles. Love Rugers. Checked a few places that sell magazines to read (including Barnes & Noble) but I am not finding much. Are they out there? Is it a plan by retailers not to sell them?

From the shelves, you are more likely to get wanna be gun gurus, advertiser preferences, etc. You might look for a used firearms books by Ian Van Hoog (sp?), some of the Gun Digest take down books or it might be a better use of your time to scan You Tube! Remember: most are subjective, not objective.

You might have been better to simplify your query with a "Where can I learn more about...." question. Also, order free catalogs from suppliers! ("Dream Books" or "Wish Books")

Sorry if I was abrupt but so many times people can get their answer by a simple Google or Yahoo search! Forum members(not just here but other forums as well)want other members to do everything for them!
 
The AR platform is quite simple but there's all sorts of rabbit holes to look into. When one begins to make the AR do things it wasn't meant to do, that's where you can go astray fairly easily.
Lots of information available about the original design and it's short falls and positive performance. Look at the AR design from this perspective: How many other firearms can be assembled from a box of parts by a relatively uninformed klutz and be both functional and often extremely accurate.
I didn't carry one into battle and by the time I was service age, the 'Mattel' had mostly outgrown it's early choking/jamming issues(these were not really the fault of the rifle or design BTW).

I am used to wood and steel firearms. The AR platform is a whole new world for me (but fun) I already see what you mean about rabbit hole. I put steel back up sights on it. I am very comfortable with peep and post.
 
The Barns and Nobel around us does sell gun magazines. Also a great place to go is Half Price Books. They often sell older magazines for $1 and usually have an assortment of gun magazines.

As far as the Google search is concerned, you know, sometimes, I just don't even think about the fact that I could Google something, or some company might have a web site.

True Story...Once, here on the forum, I asked some really dumb question, and our very own Snake45 asked me: "Is your Google broken?" That is now a regular phrase here in our house. :)
 
The OP is in Idaho. I try not to go there if I can avoid it (Had to go for a non-resident CCW=which I got!), but if he is ever in Portland, try Powell's Books. They have EVERYTHING!!!!!

Go down the street to Jakes crawfish for the BEST seafood (Bill McCormick of McCormick & Schmick's owns it and started there as a busboy)

I have Powells saved as one of my favorites. Great idea. I love giant bookstores.
 
As a Wildlife Biologist for many years, I was able to find many little-known books in my field.

First time I took my wife (an English major in college), I asked if she needed a map. She just laughed and we had not gone two rooms and she said she was lost and where could we get a map! :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I have a niece with a PhD in English (not all in the family is lost=the other niece got a BS in Biology!). We actually found a Librarian Action Doll for her!

I think there was a bit of mis-communication in this thread. The OP was asking about finding actual magazines on book racks for sale in stores.
I don't think he was lazy or whatever because he didn't do an internet search for what he was seeking.

In my opinion,, I took it to mean he wanted to get an actual magazine or more that he could look at to see if it held his interests.

We all know the internet is full of stuff. And yes,, an internet search can reveal more info or data than any gun rag could imagine. I think Bear Bio thought a totally different direction because he uses the internet for his research, knowledge or studying purposes.

I do think his phrase; "Always amazes me at how computer illiterate (or lazy) members are!" may have been a bit blunt & even harsh in how it was worded.
I constantly tell folks; "I'm computer stupid" because I do not understand how a lot of computer stuff works,, or how to do many things on these modern gizmos. And I'm not alone. I know a few folks who do not even own a computer. And I also know a lot of people who are much worse in their computer skills than I am,, (and that's a lot!) Heck,, Miss Penny uses a computer a WHOLE lot more than I do,, and can do stuff that amazes me. Yet,, one thing she doesn't do is anything to do with posting pictures. I learned to do that long ago. But I rely upon her to fix me screw-ups when I have computer issues.

But a good example of differing views is how Miss Penny & I approach any form or research. She'll google-fu everything. I never use google. I do use a different site to do any type of search,, for a very specific website,, that doesn't track or store my info.

But the OP is a lot like me & others. We want an actual printed magazine or book & not the internet.

Having been here for a while,, and conversed with Bear Bio enough, or followed his postings,, I do not think he's an elitist or anything that may have been suggested about his attitude. I just think he may have been thinking differently w/o the realization of a different viewpoint. And as I said,, maybe his wording could have been differently to avoid the harshness of it.
He's never struck me as a "negative" type of personality or anything like that.

But I readily admit that I prefer to try & find a lot of printed stuff vs using the internet for everything myself. I'm a bit old school, and I understand a book or magazine. Often,, when I search for something,, the stuff on the internet is NOT what I'm seeking. And I know it's likely because I may not be wording something correctly to get the results I seek.
And the internet.. well,, it's only got whatever someone else has entered into it.

So again,, I truly feel there was a real mis-communication in the way this thread was presented & approached.
 
In the gun world black is THE topic.

From Glock to AR's if someone wanted to know something about them the net is a better, albeit maybe a slightly biased place for info :-)

Thank you for that. Bear and I got a little snippy for a quick second. But all is good now. I appreciate this forum a lot. I always learn something new.
 
I feel the magazine companies are trying to ditch the paper and do online subscriptions. I prefer the paper mags for reference as is justified by my hoard filling up several boxes. I don't trust the online sub, unless you download each one, that they will delete it after time like they have with previous info.
 
Youtube is your friend and it's free. Lots of channels some of which are great, good and BS. After you watch a number you will determine which are worth watching. I don't find reading mags. very useful. Probably never was but prior to the internet that was about all there was.
