I’ve yet to fire any rounds, but the D&H .458 marked ones and a bushmaster 20rd AR both seem like they are going to work out. I looked for my 5 rd colt mag from the ban years & will try it when I find it.
Don’t laugh, but I’m going to try a sightmark 1-6 scope. It has elevation hashes for subsonic 300 blk and, surprisingly, they aren’t too far off a ballistic table for 300’ish gr subsonic 458 out to 300 yds. It’s a spare scope I’ve got & they claim to have a lifetime warranty. I’ll mount in some quality steel rings & see what happens
With regards to the rifle, I’m going to try to stick with the factory stock but it flexes a good bit since I had to open the barrel channel. It’s lightweight, maybe too much for the comfort of my shoulder. If so I’ll buy the limbsaver pad for the American.
The gun itself with silencer attached, empty mag, no scope balances at the barrel nut. Thus far I’m liking the length & overall weight. I’m glad I changed my order away from the 0.90 muzzle to the 0.85

I made some progress this weekend. Grabbed the 450bm from my FFL. Got the barrel off. I just trashed the barrel nut and used a pipe wrench. Took a minute to figure out how the clamp it in the vice with some padding but it came off no problem.
Talked to Ruger this morning and ordered the AR magwell. Total cost on the magwell was $25 shipped with Maine sales tax.
Also submitted a form 1 to SBR it. My last form 1 took about 35 days I'm hoping the current brace rule change nonsense hasn't messed that up.

Well good news is I got the barrel installed & headspace’d. Bad news is I lost the little bb while removing the extractor. I was removing it inside a gallon ziplock and it somehow still got away from me.
Bonus is I found a new in box Forster .223 go gauge I have no recollection buying under my bench while searching for it

I decided to use the original stock but wanted to make some small changes to it. I hated how the factory AR mag button was half covered by the stock so I opened up the stock in that area and beveled it a bit. I also wanted to add some QD sling mounts so I added some Noveske flush QD sling cups.

@Pauerpilot good afternoon sir. I was wondering if anyone is currently using your gauges? I’ve been trying to wait it out but I’ve been waiting on mine for three months now and I’m getting anxious! I have everything I need minus an optic and a magazine.

I got my 10 rd 6BR AICS magazine in today. So I had to try it out. I had to bend the feed lips out a little bit to even get the 500g rounds to feed. It still fails to feed on the second to last round almost every time. But it is useable.

Just an FYI if your submitting a Form 1 don't put model as: American it needs to be: Ruger American. Or at least that's why the examiner failed mine. I resubmitted with the corrected model but I'm back at the beginning of the line.

My tax stamp came back the second time and barrel arrived. I need to get the receiver engraved and then install the barrel. I have been a bit preoccupied with some projects around the house but I am excited to get it finished up soon. I will be reaching out to @Pauerpilot to borrow his gauges as soon as I get around to having the receiver engraved.
One of my house projects is Sheetrocking my basement and that forced me to pack up my entire reloading / gun room so everything is a bit chaotic at the moment.

I got my Bowers 458 suppressor on. I need to come up with some slower rounds it's louder then I expected. Shooting 500g FMJs from blackbutterfly.Man this thread died fast

I've got my base rifle in hand, sadly have to wait a bit before I order the barrel. Car got totaled and Ive got to replace it before building fun stuff! (Pro tip if someone t bones you at 70mph on the highway toyotas are great for keeping you safe)

Why not just roll your own? Pick up a cheap single stage press, some powder and primers. It would be cheaper

Just need a Lee perfect powder measure, priming tool. Case trimmer and a scale and a chronograph..

After my son’s house fire last year that melted my old Dillon press and all our dies etc I’ve been thinking about one of these just for .45LC.
About $300 will get you everything you need to get started for a caliber. I included the Chronograph because I don't care where you get your data you need to verify.

I honestly don't see the benefit of the 458 over the 450 Bushmaster for deer. The Bushmaster already sprays about 10lbs out the other side. Only real benefit is not having to size the 500gr 45-70 bullets for subs.

Both are good calibers however, I feel that the 458 has a bit more options. The 450 can use .451-.452 diameter bullets. Those are 45 ACP and 45 LC diameters. Those bullets are not ideal for. rifle velocities. There are .451-.452 diameter bullets that are meant for rifle velocities but they tend to be more expensive. The .458 diameter bullets have been around for literally over a century. The selection and variety is more in favor of the 458. Furthermore, the cost is considerably less.
For deer, either will work great. For me, I am out west and I have the opportunity to hunt much larger critters. I want a tough bullet that will not break the bank and be able to put an elk, feral cow, big mule deer, or hog on the ground. Hard cast bullets meant to be used at rifle velocities are an economical choice that I did not find for the 450.
Lastly, I did fire the 450 and 458 in both bolt and AR platforms. Over a wide variety of commercial and hand made loads, my experience is that the 458 is more accurate than the 450. For me, I am an accuracy snob. This was my thought process when I chose the 458 over the 450 and 50 Beowulf.

Has anyone been working up loads for their build? Its been 105 and hotter here for the last 2 months it seems, so no shooting or casting recently for me. But the weather is finally starting to come back to reality

Hunting season is upon me here win Arizona! I had to send my LabRadar out for servicing. I just got it back. I am going to do some load development on Hornady 410gr Sub-X, 325gr FTX, and Barnes 250gr TSX. The 410 will be sub-sonic. I am planning to use the rifle on deer, elk and feral cows this year. I will post load development, range reports and hopefully hunting results.

I too use a LabRadar. I like mine since I purchased an external trigger.
Have you seen the Garmin unit announced? Looks really simple to use too.
Did you get a chance to shoot those 600gr NOE cast I sent you?

You can run some of the 45/70 heavies in the 500gr range subsonic as well for some major thump.

I did shoot them!!!! Holy genetic energy Batman! I had to flare the case mouth quite a bit to seat the bullets properly. I have a couple left. I am holding them for my feral cow hunt. I think that will put one on the ground pretty reliably. Thank you very much for the bullets!

Usually you should run cast bullets through a sizing die.
