I’ve had Single Sixes since 1976 and currently have 4 of them. I’ve been watching the Wranglers since they first came out and have been amazed at the various colors that came out over the years but they were all the 4 5/8” so I never got one. But last year they I saw the short Birdshead Wrangler and had to have one. Recently I’ve been dressing mine up with grips I’ve acquired over the years.

I thought it couldn’t get better than a short Birdshead, but then Ruger came out recently with a Sheriff’s Wrangler. I wanted one but I really didn’t need another gun, so after a call to Ruger and $35 of parts I had this:

After pounding in the trigger pin retaining spring on the new grip frame and a few minutes with a #15 Torx screwdriver I had this Sheriff’s with Shop Ruger Black grips

Ruger Birdshead Grip Frame is “Birdshead”
The one & only,,, Single Six to Blackhawk and everything in between.

45C/ACP Convertible Flattop
45C/ACP Convertible Vaquero
327M Single Seven
22/22M Convertible Single Six
All with a few other slight custom modifications.

… even though the NM flattop has a slightly different grip frame originally (~7/16” thick -vs- 1/2”) ,,, Where the grip frame mates to the cylinder frame they are the same. I have big thick hands and don’t particularly care for the Slimmer XR3 size grip frame, so off it went and changed out to Birdshead.

EDIT TO ADD;
Sorry for the hijack, but the dressed up Wrangler Birdshead took me there.
If the Moderators want,,, just DELETE.

I would like to do the same with my birdshead. Can you provide more details how to purchase the plowhandle grip frame for a Wrangler. I think bronze would look great on a black frame (almost like two tone brass).

I contacted Ruger about buying a “plowhandle” grip frame to replace my birdshead frame (which is not comfortable to me). They responded that they’d only sell me a replacement frame the same type as the one my Wrangler came with originally.

I called Ruger a little over a month ago per the parts info in the Wrangler
owners manual. The lady I talked to must have just started working at
Ruger. When I asked about ordering a regular Black Wrangler grip frame
she said they couldn’t sell those as they had the serial # on them. I told
her the grip frame attaches to the frame with the serial #. She finally looked
up the part # I gave her on the schematic / parts list and saw that it wasn’t a
restricted part. Then she went to ask her supervisor if it was OK to sell. She
came back and said it was OK. I told her I wanted a Black and a Silver grip
frame. Off she went to her supervisor again. When she got back she said
they only had the Black grip frames, which I thought was odd considering
they must have done them in 20 colors by now and the Black, Silver and
Bronze are the standard colors. I ordered the Black grip frame and trigger
spring pin.
Two days later my package from Ruger arrived. The grip frame was not the
standard black but was “Armor Black” which must have been from one of
the special runs. The color looked good so I put it on. I like it!

Unfortunately the parts/customer service reps are apparently not gun

Yoter,
My order for my grip frame came from Sturm, Ruger & Co. Inc. 200 Ruger Road,
Prescott, AZ 86301
My customer service rep was “LD”. You have to give your serial #, my Birdshead came up as model: 02015
The grip frame I received was: WRG00309-BLK, Grip Frame, (Armor Black
Cerakote Finish). The color isn’t the standard black.
