Rarity of 3” GP100 38 special adj sights.

I have a stainless GP100 with a 3” barrel and fully adjustable sights just like the 4” models only with a shorter barrel. It is 38 Special (NOT 357) and has the round butt compact rubber grips with wood inserts. It has the smoothest double action I have ever felt on a GP. I bought it used and got just the gun. No model number or box.

I am thinking of selling it but cannot find any of them on GunBroker to help me determine a value.

Any information on this version is requested.

They were a contract run for some agency that either didn't take delivery or ordered way too many. Nearly all the leftovers were bought by CDNN and they were blowing them out for $379. But that was maybe 15-20 years ago. They are hard to find now and the $700 figure doesn't surprise me.
 
Have you tried a RUGER serial number lookup? That may give you some info and a spec sheet link.
 
The model number is 1751. There was also a .357 version, the 1708. Originally, there were only about 10 or so 1708's made. When the 1751's started turning up I gather from the other Ruger site that a number were readily made into .357's for those that wanted a 1708 but somewhere after the release of the 1751s, a number of new 1708s hit the market, too. Evidently, they (1751's) hit the market in 2013 or 2014 with someone claiming they were released via Davidson's.

OK, so not quite 15-20 years ago 😳 I should have thought of the SN lookup, I ran my number and it was also 2013, and is 176-56xxx. I picked it up here on RF in the Classifieds in the early pandemic days, April 2020, and remember at the time that I was glad to get it since I missed getting one when CDNN had them.

Not much on them in Chad's Ref, all it says, under GP's with the Newport rollmark, is: A small group of KGP-831 are also known to have been produced (known s/n 176-44234). That is the only mention of the model.
 
I have one, they were from a canceled Asian police contract, Ruger won't say who. The actions on all 3 are especially slick, bone stock, I've never had any of them apart. They came with Hogue rubber grips so if it has Letts someone swapped them out

They were sold through Davidson's in about 2016 - 17 or so. I have the 4" .38 with Target Sights also. They're not "rare", not many people care about .38 GP100s.

They pop up used on GunBroker

Any GP100 (or Sec. Series for that matter) with adjustable sights in .38 special is rare. They just may not have the demand that other Ruger models might have (flattops etc.).
