Sambar stag occasionally "speaks" to me, but generally not. I prefer elk "stag," though I don't even own any of them.

I "kind of" like imitation stags… but it has to be on the right type of gun.

If it's a cheesy knock-off gun built in response to the 1950s cowboy craze, I figure it needs some cheesy knock-off grips!

For example- I have a nickle-plated Hawes .22 revolver that is just crying out for a pair of imitation stags! 🤠

My Hawes came wearing imitation Mother of Pearl grips, so even fake stags would be a big step up! 😎

I have a set in mind, that at least have the vague appearance of stag. They'll look "right" on that revolver, to my eye.

I seem to have 'missed the memo' on the "jigged bone" grips, too. I don't care for that look at all on grips, but can tolerate it on a pocket knife. The absolute worst IMHO are a jigged bone pattern w/fake stag coloration… 🤢

I like the imitation stag grips if it's a period correct gun. As in, that's what they shipped with from the factory. I don't have any and I can't afford real sambar stag.

I do have some Elk grips, which I also really like. I think they age beautifully. My oldest pair (15 years old) is just now starting to get that aged patina to them.

I once had a set of jigged bone grips on a second generation 44 special S&W. They had been polished over the years from use and were better looking than some other grip materials in my opinion. They fit well and felt good when holding the gun. I would get another pair if the opportunity should arise.

Save your dollars and get a real pair of stag grips you'll like them better. Patrick Grashorn did these New Ruger Vaqueros for me.

I have a pair of Jay Scott stags, like so much I made a mold of them and poured several sets of 2 part epoxy
in white and antique.

I made all of the grips after the Jay Scott #61. Not that it matters but I make pearl grips, copied from the Jay Scott white Pearl #61 also. I have done blue, gold, white, cinnamon, black. Overloadded

Not real fond of the imitation stags, prefer the real thing. Got these on a black chrome plated Super Blackhawk many years ago. Sold the revolver to a friend moving to Alaska and installed them on my Stainless Super Blackhawk.
