So far, I have managed to keep the errant pachyderms at bay with my 9.3x74R. However, my shooting buddy has an unfired 416 Rigby, and two boxes of ammo. He is starting to sell some of his goodies off, so I can get that one should the need arise.

What I do for mine, is trim a batch of cases about 3/16 shorter than normal. The amount will vary depending on the nose design of the bullet you plan to use. Doesn't matter if the cases are short, the round headspaces on the rim. If you check the factory 45-70 bullets, as well as the old Lyman...

I have one of the #1 45-70 with the 26 inch C wt barrel, which has no throat at all. Factory loads have a bullet with bore diameter front section, as do several of the older cast designs. OTOH, Hornady and Sierra bullets, even 300 grainers, won't begin the let the breech close. The solution...

The bux for a good fire rated safe are well spent if you have a fire.

"ported" A lot of the muzzle blast goes sideways, not out the front. No real problem if shooting targets, as you will wear ear muffs. For hunting, one does not usually use hearing protection. I would shoot it before purchase with no muffs. I don't think you will like it.

Wish I had known you wanted one.........just sold one very much like it ,1990 or so. Had the early style short chokes. This one had about a box shot through it at the range, cleaned, put back in the box, even in the plastic bags. I hope you bought yours for as cheap as I sold this one.

Friend has one in, I think, 762x39. A 30-06 would be a handful, no doubt. Betcha never wear the barrel out on this one.
