My Weakness for Ruger Revolvers continues ....

Tore the guts out of it today .. stoned the surfaces that mate together and run against each other. Polished them to a mirror finish ... cleaned and lubed the internals. A very good trigger is now very, very, very good :-) Next step is load development.

My Weakness for Ruger Revolvers continues ....

I couldn't resist the latest temptation from my local gun pusher. Ruger GP100 4" half lug Stainless in 38 Special! I have ALWAYS wanted a Speed Six in .38 special, and since I can't seem to find one that is reasonably priced so this will have to do. While these revolvers are not rare, you...

Too Soft, Too Fast - more Cast Bullet Alloy Results

This is what is called 50/50. Tin is added to help the mold fill out well and give good sharp edges and proper diameters. If I used 10lbs of lead and 1/8 tin I would have 40/1. I'd like to suggest visiting this forum if you are serious about learning to cast your own. Nothing against...

Too Soft, Too Fast - more Cast Bullet Alloy Results

My pure led came in the form an of sheets of lead that covered the walls of the radiology department. I have a 10lb pot so I add 5lbs of pure lead, 5lbs of wheel weights and then 1/8lb of tin solder.

Too Soft, Too Fast - more Cast Bullet Alloy Results

I fired these into 3 water soaked phone books backed up by a cooler filled with water. They penetrated all three books and were caught in the water filled cooler. I am beginning to wonder if the plastic outer shell of the cooler may be part of the mystery.

Gett'em a smidge harder ... possibly 50/50 wheelweights and pure lead. I like the blended alloys. They will give some expansion without shattering.

Too Soft, Too Fast - more Cast Bullet Alloy Results

Found a nice load a few days ago with my Ruger GP100 and Security Six using Lyman 358439 hollow point and a stout load of H-110. Tried the same load with a Lyman 358429 solid and the same load cast from 40/1 WW/Pure It was too much for the alloy ... extreme slumping!! And a bore that was...

New to me Security Six Range Report and Cast Bullet

Rumrunner - yes it does .. no drilling to tapping needed! Mike A. - this load REALLY BARKS. Having the scope and extra weight on it tames the recoil somewhat.

New to me Security Six Range Report and Cast Bullet

Nope .. this is a Lyman mould that was shipped as a hollow-point (358439) and when I got it the pin had a poor fit. I sent it to a gentleman in California (buckshot) and he opened the pin hole and made 4 new pins for me. Several of the other pins make very DEEP and WIDE hollow points in the...

New to me Security Six Range Report and Cast Bullet

I recently came on a GREAT deal on a Ruger Security Six 4 " with a fair amount of holster wear and some chips in the original grips. Paid a mere $250 for it. Mind you I was not looking for a show-piece but a working gun to use on Search and Rescue calls here in Rural Montana. Took the...
