I consider them an outstanding choice for home defense. These are both early .38 Specials, made in the first months of production. They've been tinkered on a bit:

If you expect most of your shots to be between 50-75 yds. because of the terrain, I recommend a 2X Leupold. If you lived in the western US and expected most of your shots to be between say 55-110 yds, I'd recommend a 4X Leupold.

Who knows? Looks a bit heavy for 20 shots. Maybe there have been 20 shots and 2000 dry firings. Who knows?

If the scratch is light, not deep, it can be blended in by only using the Scotchbrite pad, and bypassing the emery cloth.

That gun is outstanding, and the grips are spectacular!
