Son-in-law discovered loose bases on his Savage .30-06 weekend before last. Fixed the accuracy problem by tightening them.
Had a Ruger Hawkeye .30-06 that wouldn't shoot well at all. Discovered the scope was adjusted to a horizontal stop.
Love it when the fix is cheap.
Big Brother has two Mini-14's. Don't know the years of mfg but used one for shooting p-dogs in TX back in the '80's or early 90's.
For an accuracy nut like me, they were garbage. Hitting a P-dog at 100 was iffy, past that it was pure luck.
For wasting ammo, they were great.
While I like the...
My first question is why would anyone buy two rifles they believe are “notoriously inaccurate”? Not something I would do.
As to Ruger accuracy, most of my rifles are Rugers – M77, MKII and Hawkeye. About half were purchased new, about half were purchased used. All shoot very well, some...
Was looking through my reloading spreadsheet earlier today. Not at home to dig up the targets, but development loads for my .308 Win Scout (16.1" barrel) provided the following group sizes at 100 yards:
2868fps = 130g TTSX, CFE223
1.1" overall, 2 each at 52.0,g 52.5g and 53.0g (52.0g=.72"...
I'm in the same boat. Sold a tack-driving .308 Win to finance my first AR, a .300 Blackout that came with a Rock River ..223/5.56 upper as well. Later got a lower for the .223/5.56. Then I built a .308 using stripped Aero upper and lower.
All shoot well and will do the intended work, but I...
I have a .308 Scout (16.1" barrel"). Came with a laminate stock and flash hider. When Ruger came out with the synthetic stock I got one of those, dropping the weight to a claimed 6.25 pounds. Also replaced the flash hider with a $30 brake purchased at a gun show, just for fun. Bought a...
Ruger service has always been excellent in my experience.
1. Buddy bought a used Blackhawk .357 revolver. Sent it back for the upgrade, no cost to him except shipping to Ruger.
2. I bought a Blackhawk .357 revolver. Cases would drag after firing and rotating around. Sent it to Ruger, basepin...
I've often said I get all the good ones - in spite of the terrific odds against that happening...
I don't shoot for groups very often, especially at 100 yards. But here are a few pics:
M77 .30-06 mfg in 1984, purchased used in 2006, two-shot scope check before going long:
MKII .300WM, mfg...
My brass never gets very dirty because it gets cleaned every time it gets reloaded.
Standard SOP for me is to shoot, FL resize and de-prime in one operation, then tumble to clean and remove sizing lubricant.
Could probably get more life out of my brass if I didn't FL resize every time. Some...
That has not been my experience. Never dumped a M77/MKII/Hawkeye because it wouldn't shoot. Can't say the same for the Ruger American I had.
I agree with your previous post that Savage rifles tend to be shooters. I've had several and gifted others. One gifted (NIB) .30-06 had to be returned...
Had two Ruger rifles at the range last Saturday. Only fired 15 rounds total but the first 6 told me everything I needed to know for now.
The first was my .300WM blue/boatpaddle, middle rifle in a photo posted above. Hadn't fired for almost a year. Tried a new load using my standard 180g...
Dad, youngest brother and I were out shooting in the forest one day. At one point we used the base of a tree limb as an aim point. A few shots with our rifles and the top 15-20 feet of a pine came tumbling down.
(Note: the tree was slightly below us with a hil in the background. We were not...
