    powder for .357 carbine reloads

If you don't want to use 296/H110 because of poor performance in cold weather and 2400 is too dirty for you you might want to look at IMR 4227. IMR 4227 made in Australia is the same powder as the now discontinued (with a Hodgdon label) H4227. It is an Extreme Extruded powder and will give the...

    still confused...which diameter??

45 Colt revolvers went to .452" barrels after WWII. Since Sturm Ruger didn't open its doors until 1949 it's safe to assume that all of its 45 Colt revolvers are .452". Throat dimensions on the other hand are anyone's guess.

    Primers

All of your loads are shooting way too slow. Either your loads are way too light or your chrono is bad. As far as the Rem 2 1/2 primers, I have checked them against loads I had worked up with CCI300s in 45 Auto and 45 Colt and my loads were practically identical across my chrono with both...

    IMR 4227

The powder that is labeled "IMR 4227" is now made by ADI in Australia. ADI makes Hodgdon's Extreme Extruded and Clays series powders. ADI calls the powder that was sold and labeled by Hodgdon as "H4227" AR2205. When Hodgdon bought IMR they stopped selling AR2205 as "H4227." They now put AR2205...

44 Magnum HORNADY XTP 300 grain IMR 4227

The newly manufactured IMR 4227 is the same powder as H4227. IMR 4227 is now made by ADI in Australia, which has been supplying Hodgdon with their Extreme Extruded and Clays series powders for years. When Hodgdon bought IMR they dropped H4227 and began selling it as IMR 4227. The old Canadian...

Anyone having problems with CCI primers?

I've never had a problem with CCI primers. They were all I used until things started drying up and I had to use Remingtons. The last time I went shooting I had my first failure to fire. It was a 9mm using a Rem 1 1/2. While storing primers in your garage over the winter isn't best practices it...

problem with 45acp in blackhawk cylinder

No, they were West Coast plated flat points. Thinking back now the bullets may have been seated slightly misaligned. I was using the seater stem for SWC that came with the die set and I never had good luck with it. After a couple sessions I sent a sample of the bullets to RCBS and had them make...

problem with 45acp in blackhawk cylinder

The exact same thing happened to me when I got my Blackhawk convertible. I loaded up 100 rounds with my brand new RCBS dies in brand new Starline cases, seating and crimping in separate steps, and two of the chambers would not load completely. They would load factory ammo though. I bought a Lee...

.45 Colt - What's a good all around powder to start with?

The article I'm thinking of was in the February 2007 issue, no. 245. It's also in the latest edition of Propellant Profiles. No 10gr loads in that one. If I want more performance than what I've got I'd use a slower powder, and a harder bullet.

.45 Colt - What's a good all around powder to start with?

I've tried Lil' Gun in 45 Colt. IIRC I was getting over 1300fps out of my 5.5" Blackhawk with Hornady 250gr XTPs at near max. It will give top velocities but it will heat up the gun fast. Definitely shoot slow and let the gun cool down between shots. It has a lot of flash too. The second time I...

    SR45!

The SR45 is on their website. The P345 is not. A couple days ago I was on Gallery of Guns and they no longer had the P345 listed. I jumped over to Ruger's and they still had the P345 but no longer had the link to order them. I figured the SR45 was coming.

What die set for 45 colt in a revolver?

I use RCBS carbide dies. I roll crimp with a Lee factory crimp die. I'm only loading jacketed and plated so it works very well. With lead bullets sized for over sized chambers the Lee wouldn't be a good choice, but then I can always use the crimping portion of the RCBS die. I don't think my...

    BUllseye powder

Haven't tried it in 45 Colt but have used it in 45 Auto. It is messy and dirty, but boy were the loads consistent and accurate. Slower powders would work better for 45 Colt but Bullseye will work if that's all you've got.

Powder for moderate 45 colt loads……

For moderate 45 Colt loads I've been turning to Universal lately. It fills the same niche as Unique but meters better and is much, much cleaner. The only place that Unique is better than Universal, I think, is the availability of data. Anyone that publishes loading data for handguns includes Unique.

CCI vs Remington primers - range report

I finally got around to loading and retesting my pet loads in 9mm, 357, 45 Auto and 45 Colt with Remington primers. I still had loads with CCI primers so I shot them over the chronograph today too to compare. Average velocities were practically identical. It looks like you can substitute one for...
