News story yesterday about a college student who stupidly had a case of 9mm ammo delivered to his dorm. My coworker was telling me about it and reported that the guy had an AR and SIX magazines.

My coworker was floored that anyone would have six magazines until I said that I have about fifty for my ARs. That blew his mind. "Why?!"

Six are in regular rotation. The other forty four are back-ups.

I was shooting Sat with snow on the ground. I have multiple mags If for no other reason than I HATE loading mags in the freezing cold.

Real reason is that I lived through the 90s. Never again…

50 mags usually means you have more than one rifle or pistol.

Let’s see:
20 AR’s X 3 mags each (at least) = 60 magazines

I could likely find six magazines if I searched my pockets and my daily bag...
I like having 10 mags for each pistol and 20 for each rifle, if possible. Why? Because they won't get any cheaper nor easier to get. Concerns about mag capacity limits in my country have so far been fixed, but as far as price, some of them went 600% up already.

I accumulated a couple dozen “once used” AR mags years ago from sergeant in the National Guard. After one day qualifying at the range they would dispose of all the “used” mags. He was nice enough to donate them to me instead of tossing them.

There's dislike of gun free zones and there's flagrantly breaking the rules. Having some ammo in your room is one thing. Having UPS deliver a big box marked "Small Arms Ammunition" is stupid.

I’m not against guns on school grounds. I think teachers should be taught to use guns and carry them in schools.

But a case of 9mm to a school dorm? No. Not at all.

And no, I don’t know where the happy medium is. But there are too many drunk college kids in dorms. Those are the kids that don’t need easy access to loaded weapons.

I guess it all comes down to the intended use of the firearm. For instance I've mentioned I carry my primary handgun and two reloads. But for my Jeep gun I probably have a couple hundred rounds of .410. My truck gun has a similar number of 20 ga shells. I don't have a dedicated sedan gun, I just use one of the others. But the car doesn't get driven that much.

I stock up on food and rotate according to date codes. I try to have at least one year of viable food available at any given time.
Imagine someone looking in my pantry and saying, "Oh my God you have more than one can of tuna! Who needs so much tuna? And peanut butter. Why do you have so much peanut butter!?"
Same analogy.
It's better to have peanut butter and not need it, than to need peanut butter and not have it, or some ridiculous statement like that.

I knew a lot of guys who had guns in their dorm rooms which was against the rules as was beer and overnight female guests.

Any of my AR Go bags (often in vehicle) usually have the gun, 5 or 6 filled pmags, and extra batteries for the WML. With a crap ton more ammo and mags at locations I stay at. Pretty standard.

Don’t know the guys intent which might be a factor.

But having guns and ammo present everywhere is prudent. As is flashlights, knives, IFAK, fire extinguisher, etc. It’s unfortunately anyone might think this an issue.

Having ammo delivered to a dorm doesn’t show real high SA in that it’s going to be marked as ORM-D and if one is breaking the rules one needs be covert about it.

Springs don’t typically take a set. At least those in quality mags. Cyclic loads have far more effect.

I am too.

If the college though has a ‘no guns’ policy it’s probably enforceable and one can get kicked out of school for it. For a ‘normal’ student that would mean one abide by it, find a different school, or figure a way around it. In the latter case one needs be covert and use high SA to ensure one isn’t caught.

I worked for an employer for a time who had a ‘no guns’ policy. I carried anyhow but am pretty certain if found out I could have been fired without recourse. No big deal (one can always find a new job) but it did mean I needed to be prudent and careful while CCWing. Wasn’t the only one carrying there fwiw but there are stupid lawyers and stupid employers out there and I can either spend all my life fighting them or just find a way around their idiocy.

Most carry in ‘gun free’ zones knowing that more than 85% of mass shootings happen in these areas. It’s idiotic they exist at all but fighting them takes time. I can’t keep other people from doing dumb things but that doesn’t mean I need get drawn into their stupidity.

It’s just when doing so one need be very covert and conceal well.

I'm fairly certain that he had to sign a contract for the dorm room, and that contract likely has wording that forbids firearm possession.

Seems to me the problem was the gun he had and the case of ammo was a red flag... I wonder if the college actually has a "no ammo rule"... Also, how did they know it was a case of ammo?

I know the solution... kind of a Chris Rock idea... you can have all the guns you want in your dorm room but no ammo allowed.... that seems logical to me... then the ammo could be stored in a separate place / locker on campus... where you have to sign in to get it. This would for sure stop in campus shootings...

Now the question I'm asking is was the AR chambered in 9mm....? Really need a link to the story.
