Hawkeye 7.62x39 Value

A family member was asking me about the value of a somewhat rare discontinued Ruger, and I figured y'all would likely know. It's an unfired 77 Compact Hawkeye in 7.62x39, with rings, but no box. Here's the pictures he sent of the rifle.

Yea that was my first suggestion to him and nothing is there. Guess he could list it and set the example for the next one.

Seems lately excellent used guns will bring darn near MSRP of a new one.
A blued and wood Hawkeye now has MSRP in the $1200 range.

Just a WAG that something like this may get in the $900 range. Again, just a GUESS but ya gotta start someplace.

That caliber with the boat paddle / skeleton stock would be more desirable to me. I passed on one once and still regret it.

Had one back in the late 90s IIRC. The only thing appealing to me was the $2/box steel case ammo.

I am going to agree with Hitman on $900. A very desirable Model and a rare caliber as stated above ! I attend many gun auctions and these Hawkeyes have greatly increased in value .

Agree that is an interesting rifle, might be surprising $$ what it would bring. Ruger says 2010 ship date. Even the American Ranch 7.62x39 is in great demand these days. You probably know of the No. 1 rifles they made in SS and the later blue. Don't see those surface too often

I have been wanting a 7.62x39 American but wish they would make one with a longer barrel AND OPEN SIGHTS!! I know that I will be waiting for a very, very long time for the model I desire.

A 16" barrel doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but what do I know?

Surprised me when I stumbled across it, but apparently the 7.62x39 doesn't benefit a lot from extra barrel length (with common factory ammo, at least). In one test, the velocity gained by going from a 16.5" barrel to a 23" or 24" barrel was only about 150 fps:

Guess that's why a lot of manufacturers stick with shorter barrels...

16" barrel makes plenty sense to me considering an AK has the same length.

The problem is Ruger is way down the list of desirability in bolt action rifles by hunters and target shooters so the only extra value would come from a Ruger fan or collector. Considering the current synthetic 7.62X39 Ruger bolt rifle is CHEAP, I'd say $900 is a stretch. Wish you had the box.

As for Ruger and its quality of firearms it can't be that bad for, they are the largest, most successful arms manufacture in America at this time and most likely to remain as such for an extended period of time. Taking over Marlin from obscurity, entering the AR arena, the Ruger PC carbine are just a few of the innovations being brought to the marketplace. The Ruger Precision Rifle has taken over the sport for it is highly accurate and most can afford one if so desired. The Ruger PR will hold its own against rifles costing several times the price of the Ruger. It has been reported that Ruger has something north of $60,000,000 of cash reserves on hand. That is what you call success.

I sold a Hawkeye compact 7.62x39 on Gunbroker around 5 years ago with a 2-7x Leupold vx1. It went for over $1600. No box, fired, but 98% condition with some figure in the stock. I still kick myself for selling it.

My 38th edition Blue Book shows model HM77-CR, the only 7.62x39 I saw, low 60% $250, high 100% $775.

You want real world prices in real time, the internet sites are the most reliable places to find them. However, look for items that have bids, not some clowns way overpriced hope of finding a dummy. Put on your watch list and see what it brings. I did see one of the 77's in 7.62x39, NIB sell for over $1500,00 a little over a year ago on GB.

I agree , the gun Blue book and other publications have not caught up to todays prices for used guns .
