Maybe, just maybe, Ruger is thinking about the 358 this year?
I see Grice's has two different limited runs from Ruger M77's in 358 in their Christmas flier, page 11:

If Lipsey or whomever is only selling a couple of hundred of each caliber/configuration, I guarentee they could sell all the .348's produced. Heck, I'd buy two!

Dave

That only leaves about 248 to try to sell . . . .

247, I'd buy one also.

I'm going to call my (in shipment now) #1 in 35 Whelen a '358 VG', because a 35 Whelen IS a .358 Win with some Viagra powder loaded................. : )
Yes, I'm a fan of the 358, too.

Man! That was close. I was seriously thinking about that 9.3x74R. $799. Free Shipping. Brass on sale, and almost affordable. But have you ever tried to find cast bullets in 9.3mm? That caused me to flounder, and while I did so, price went back up.

I'll keep waiting for something else. But if they ever drop it to $699, I might not be able to resist.

Why is it that everybody always wants a Number 1 in some obscure caliber that nobody else chambers? We always hear "if they made so and so I would buy it today"............why not by some in normal calibers?................jus sayin.......LOL!!!

Only a very small part of the Rifle shooting population own #1. They tend to be people that enjoy something a little different including cartridge selection.

Ruger #1 have been produced in the so called normal cartridges for years , there are numerous ones on the used market.

I recently sold the following in the following order all listed at the same time. All were VG to excellent in condition . First 3 were sold in less then a week.

1H -458 Win plain wood - 5
1S - 475 Linebaugh decent wood figure - 2
1S - 218 Bee vg wood figure - 1
1H - 405 Win vg wood figure - 3
1B - 7mm Rem exceptional wood - 7 sold after 3 months deeply discounted
1B -300 Win plain wood - 6
1H-375 H&H decent wood figure - 4

I currently own the following

Ruger 1S 275 Rigby
Ruger 1A 222
Ruger 1A 280
Ruger 1A 303
Ruger 1A 30-30
Ruger 1A 7.62X39
Ruger 1AH 2506
Ruger 1AK 6.5x55
Ruger 1B 225 Win
Ruger 1B 6mm
Ruger 1RSI 6.5x55
Ruger 1RSI 257 Rbts
Ruger 1RSI 7X57
Ruger 1S 38-55
Ruger 1S 45-70
Ruger 1S 300H&H
Ruger 1S 9.3x74r

357

So your 1B in .225 Win has a custom barrel?
There was a barreled action in .225 Win floating around the factory for a while.

I had a 1B .223 rechamber to .225

I second the 8x57 idea. I've seen no evidence that Ruger did this caliber yet in the #1. A very solid medium caliber a lot like 30-06, but unusual enough for the oddballs that like #1s in the first place. On the other hand it's a common enough caliber to have a fairly wide customer base since theres already millions of Mausers out there in this caliber that are already in current use.

I question how popular the 8x57 would be (maybe if they call it the 318 Rigby ;-) ). I didn't see the 303 Brit issue setting the world on fire, but I suspect that was due to a combination of barrel profile/length and lack of foresight in getting them exported to the former British protectorates where they would be naturally more in demand.

But if the 8x57 ever did happen, I think they should also build one that has been long overdue since Farquharson/Henry's day: a 1S in 32-40 Ballard/Win. They could use the same .322 barrel for both.
It's time the No. 1 was made in a 19th century rimmed cartridge that was VERY popular in this country for both hunting and target shooting.
Mini-rant over . . . .

There has been a #1 in 303 Brit in a LGS here in Georgia for months. Was there a couple weeks ago, might still be. About $1300-$1400 if I remember correctly.

That's why it's still there - way too much money for what many consider a sub-par caliber. Now in 308 or 30-06 you'd probably find a buyer at $1,200.
