Deadduck,
Have you done any further ammo testing with your Tac30? I have read good reports from other Mini30 owners using Fiocchi brass and Silver/Gold Bear plated-steel. Would love to see how they compare to the other tests you have documented.
If Ruger did plan to make a domestic AK..it would not be called an SR-30. Following the Ruger naming system it would be an SR-762.
IF Ruger does produce a SR-762 will people complain if it (like the Mini30) likes BRASS (w/ boxer primered) better than steel/berdan ammo? Don't most 7.62 ARs...
I can't speak for anyone other than myself but I think many of us had hopes for something big from Ruger at the SHOT show and when we saw the SR-30 sign we all applied our personal wishlist item to that mysterious plaque held by Jeff Quinn. I know that I had hoped for a new Ruger XGI in .308 but...
If the Ruger SR556-E can be found for $950ish I truly believe Ruger could sell an M14-variant with synthetic stock for $1000, maybe $1200 if equipped with walnut stock.
I am indeed interested in a Ruger to compete with the Springfield Armory M1A and have "told the CEO" on Ruger's site. Right now SA has no real competition in this category and if priced right Ruger could really do well. I like the SA M1A but there is no way I can spend around $1400 for one...if...
I was talking about all the new Minis rolling off the assembly lines right now. Don't all new Minis have heavier barrels (no more pencils)?
The Tac30 barrel is even thicker with .782" outside diameter from gas block to end of bbl.
psuminer,
All the new 580 series Rugers have thicker barrels to help improve accuracy...and from what I have read and seen the Tac-30 has an even thicker barrel at the end.
I kinda wish they would offer the Tac-30 with a woodstock...goes with the whole Garand-style and I like blued steel/wood...
