YOUR best scope deal

I love scopes. And I love a good deal. I think my best deal so far was two original in the box, brand new, Pentax Pioneer I's. Made by Burris and 4x14x42. I have other scopes that cost a lot more but these pioneers are light and as clear as any glass I have seen no matter the price.
I got them For $150 a pop on Ebay! He had another one I should have bought dang it.
Now I just need rifles to put them on. :lol:
I got twice as many scopes as I have rifles.

Best deal I got was on a leupold 6.5x20x50 adjustable objective. It was attached to a Ruger 77 mkII target in 22-250. Gun and scope looked new. Paid 600 for the package. Scope retailed for just over 600 at the time rifle would easily bring 600 bucks alone.

If you decide you hate it I think I would relieve you of that package for $600. :shock: What a deal. Hows the Higher power Leupold glass? I have a 12 power leupold and a 20x weaver I love too, but had a Bushnell elite 4200 that sucked at high power with flare. Always have wondered if the higher powered Leupolds were worth the bucks. Cant tell much looking at them in the gun store.

As long as adjust the objective to the range the glass is exceptionally clear,edges are nice and crisp as well. Biggest issue is over about 15 power any amount of movement makes the crosshairs really bounce around on the target. Need more time behind the trigger. Very accurate gun. Did not care for the factory two stage trigger so I replaced it with a rifle basix. Also bedded the action as it was probable the worst factory inlet I have ever seen. Action would rock in every direction. All told I got about 750 into the rig. Think I did pretty good.

I bought a Redfield 4x-12x with a completely custom 98 Mauser in .243 with heavy varmint barrel, Fajen varminter walnut stock, Canjar trigger, and Harris bipod for $250. :shock: :shock: :shock: Of course this was in 1976 when $300 would have bought you a brand new Colt Python and list price (as if!) on a S&W Model 29 was $256. Brand new Remington 700BDLs could be bought on sale for $200. (I know, as I worked in a store and sold a lot of them at that price.)

I always look for fixed power Made-in-USA low power scopes: Redfield "Widefield" 2 3/4Xs, Weaver "El Paso" K1.5Xs, K3s, and K2.5s. Just right for old eyes that shoot old guns but can't use irons any more.
Just found a cherry K2.5 on a boltless Chilean Mauser; sold the gun for what it originally cost me and got to keep the scope. How's FREE sound?

In the early 80's I was the gun sales clerk for Oshmans Sporting goods. We had a couple of sweet Pythons for $399, the remington BDL's were $350, and when we decided to get rid of the "black guns", we sold a whole rack of Colt AR's for $400. With Factory Collapsable stocks. They sold in a day even then.

Redfields at the time were not real desired, no more so than weaver, and a 14 power redfield was $79 or $89 dollars I believe for a 'widefield'. I picked up a couple and I think that started my scope obsession. At the time I thought I had the best scope in the world.

Sometimes I just like to take my extra scopes to the range and play with them looking at bullet holes at long distances.
Yes I know that is sick.

Good 'ole Oshman's Sporting Goods. That brings back some good memories!

The Redfield Widefield's were fetching a lot more than $79-$89 in the late 70's around here. My friend had a 2x7 hanging on his Rem. 700 300mag. and it fogged on him his 1st trip to the woods. He sold it to me for $50 and I sent it to Redfield for a few bucks and they fixed the problem. I hung it on a Rem. Classic .270 and hunted with it for 4 years with no problems. It still resides there to this day. I believe he paid $150 for it. $100 was a lot to me way back when.

I do have a close second best deal, just recently on this one.
Natchez was discontinuing 6x20x50 Nitrex by Weaver TR1's.
To make way for their remaining $700 TR2's.
I got three of them 20x TR1's for $189 a piece on closeout and if there is a better scope I have yet to find it. Internet rumor is its the same as a Weaver Grand slam.
I recently bought a Bushnell Elite 4200 20x and the Nitrex put it to shame. So much so I sold the elite asap.
I won't buy another bushnell anything.

For a few years I was convinced I would find some smaller company like Simmons or Tasco that was made in Japan or the Philippines, that was just as good as a Burris or Leupold. I was told they were built at the same contract plants. Like Nichols being made by Nikon.
After a LOT of scopes I gave up on that. A simmons whitetail expedition was as close as I came to great glass at a cheap price. Those Custom shop Japanese Tascos and Bushnell Banners were hit and miss. Mostly miss.
You do get what you pay for in glass unless you get that really special deal on a good name brand. Usually its bundled with a rifle to be able to get one super cheap. To get a Burris or lightseeker by itself, seperate and cheap, well that is what keeps me going. I have done it a few times.

A few years I bought two Zeiss top of the line (not Conquests) 4Xs, like new that someone had traded in for variables. for $250 each. Great scopes. I let one get away to make a custom rifle sale, but the other one stays.
