YETI ?

Has YETI redeemed themselves yet to the gun crowd? My wife got one of their tumblers from some promotion at work. They are actually really nice quality. I realize it's probably made in China, but I'm pretty impressed.

I'm not going to use it for target practice :D , but I remember a few years ago now, they shot themselves in the foot so to speak about some public relations mishap over, I don't even know what. But the gun world wasn't happy.

Just wanting to know before I go and buy something from them. Actually, I probably wouldn't since I bet most of their stuff is made in China.

I don't remember the "why's" of the dust up I just know I won't take out a loan to buy a coffee mug.

The fallout was over Yeti pulling out of an NRA program. The timing was really bad with so many other companies cutting ties with the NRA.

Yeti makes really good stuff! A lot of it is not Made in USA, though it's not made in China, either. I've found you can buy other really good items from other vendors and they cost a lot less. I avoid China!

The cooler I bought last year is a Made in USA Orca and it's fantastic! I wrote about it in the following link, and also about Yeti and the NRA.

They are pretty nice. This is the second tumbler my wife brought home from some promotion at work. I bet Yeti loves the large orders from those big companies. This one has her company and some other logo stenciled on the side.

Cholo! Thanks for posting the link to the thread about the coolers. I vaguely remember that discussion. It was nice to go back and re-read it. How has your cooler held up over the past year?

The largest problem for a Yeti, to me, is how proud of them the company is.
(HIGH PRICE) - - - I have several from Sam's Club that cost about 1/4th the
dollars, yet in side by side tests, are so close to equal that I have only Sam's
versions.

P.S. Take a home depot drawer pull (stainless - $3) and some JB Weld, two
part epoxy, be careful as you put it on, and you have an EXCELLENT handle
for the 32oz size. :wink:
(I've got one that I did that way, used almost daily, and in five years it is still
as good as when I put it together. :D

It's got a few scuffs, but the cooler is amazing! I highly recommend Orca coolers! I looked at a single tumbler of theirs and it's made in China. You always have to look or ask. Orca coolers are all USA made. Nice! :)

A couple years back a member here was selling these:

that's the only Yeti product I own. They seem to be marketed toward the "upperly mobile crowd"
The real problem with the one pictured above is it keeps ice frozen for too long.... takes hours for it to melt.

Insulated mugs are $.99 at the Goodwill and Salvation Army thrift stores. Lots of variety, too.

When this "craze" started a number of years ago, Yeti was the best, and they priced their items to show everyone that they were the best. I bought the wife and I one when we were in Steamboat Springs visiting her mom and wanted good insulated cups for the trip. Boy, did I get hit with sticker shock, but we were on vacation so I bought them. The next year or so I heard about another company that was now competing with Yeti. Company was called RTIC and their products were touted as eaqual or better than Yeti at half the cost or better. Got travel mugs from them and have never looked at a Yeti since.

However, everyone seems to have very well made items like RTIC and Yeti and many are very cheaper, even Stanley jumped on the bandwagon and their products are just as good (IMO) and not any more expensive. Yes, they probably all come from China, probably all from the same factory :D

I agree with Cholo, ORCA coolers are probably the best I've run across but again, RTIC will give them a run for their money.

Your mileage may vary quite a bit in the cooler/insulated cups/insulated bottles arena.

No doubt the hippocrits would do hat.
Ive seen a pc of some NRA shooting team and a couple were wearing Levis w/ a ver evident patch above the rt rear pocket.

No YETI, LEVIS or MUCK boots here and I ever tell dealers(stores) they shouldnt be selling the stuff. I get a lot of dumb looks even after I try to explain, also arguments on line for shooter user/supporters of those companies.

I try to buy American made products. Even Levi’s have some jeans made in the USA. For me that takes precedents over some riff a company starts with a specific group of people.

I bet the people that work at Yeti have an average number of guns consistent with the average across America. For whatever reason they decided to cancel the NRA deal probably boils down to money more than Anything else.

+1. My wife won a Yeti cooler in a raffle, along with 200 dollars in beef certificates.

One of the members of our dog club has an RTIC cooler. It is exactly the same dimensions, shape, and basically identical in every aspect.
In fact, if you took the labels off you could only tell the difference by the rope handles on the coolers. Even the mold marks are identical - as though they came from the same mold. :idea:

My wife also won a soft sided RTIC cooler, (at a different event, and raffle) which I use daily in the summer. It also has a twin in the Yeti catalogue, and I can't say for sure if they are also functionally the same, but it will keep ice for two days in 100 degree heat if you keep it zipped up. In a car! :shock:

I highly recommend RTIC products. Yeti quality at a fraction of the price. :)
Also, if you want to win a raffle, send my wife some money. Her luck is uncanny...
