Yellowstone vacation.

Recently spent several days in Yellowstone. Crowds were not real bad this time of year and the weather was perfect. We stayed in Cody which entailed about a hours drive to the park entrance. On our second day headed to the park we spotted a grizzly bear just outside of Cody near a dam/reservoir. Years ago we were there but this bear was a first for us.

Good for you! We saw a beautiful Grizzly years ago on the Fishing Bridge road, inside the park. That's a dandy!

I've only had a brief visit to Yellowstone. But it was great. We stayed with a friend between Cody & the park. I'd love to spend a week loafing around there.

I've taken two trips to Yellowstone. When we go we do not stay at the same place for more than 1 or 2 nights. i.e. stay in Jackson Hole, then drive through the park and stay in West Yellowstone, then drive through the park and stay in Cody. Allows for lots of exploration without lots of back tracking.

Honeymooned in Yellowstone/Jackson Hole in September ‘66: young FBI SA from MD married to a lovely lass from Western ID: just gob smacked by that gorgeous country! Back again 15 or so years ago in February: did the winter park experience: way awesome!! While visiting family this summer went to see Jenny Lake in the Tetons, where we had a very special interlude: couldn’t even get near it because of the insane tourists.

Growing up we always went to the park over Labor Day weekend (crowds were down as families had kids in school) and stayed in the cabins at Old Faithful. Sort-of a family re-union. Lots of memories. When I was little, you had to bring your own bedding. It was affordable back then. Now prices are just like any hotel and higher... Even had bears begging along the road... One went through our car once and got the crackers... So it goes. When I was a teen, no bears could be found. In fact, my wife and I haven't seen a bear in the park since. We went through the park this spring again, from the Cody entrance to the West Yellowstone -- one day trip. We talked up to our daughter-in-law (who had never saw the park growing up in Maryland) of all the animals she'd see... Only one deer, and one elk (off in the distance). Go figure. Guess they knew we were coming :) . Did catch Old Faithful letting off some steam :) .

I was visiting Yellowstone every Sunday night for a few years until it ended.....

Haven't actually been there since I was a kid I think it was 1970 or 71. One day I will try to get the old slide projector up and running. I have boxes of vacation slides. It all became mine when my Mother passed last year. I remember when folks came back from a vacation they would have the neighbors over to their homes to watch slides. As a kid it was great to laugh at your friends in goofy family pics on the screen. But sooner or later it was their turn to laugh at you.

May have to get my Sister and Brother together if I can get it running and relive Yellowstone vacations and other places in the time of way back when.

In my limited visits, I actually preferred Grand Teton National Park and Jackson Hole. Yellowstone is a place everyone should try to visit, but it is best to plan your trip when there are not as many others there. Last time I went I was on a motorcycle, and while it is great to be out in the open instead of in a vehicle, beware - people are looking at the sites, not for motorcycles. I didn't stay long.

Did you see any Bull Elk? all we saw were cows and calfs, no bucks either

the Wife and I where just out there , went west across SD , did Mount Rushmore, then up to Devil Tower, then across to Cody WY, got to the cabin ( rented thru Cody Land co.) which was about 18 miles west of Cody and just before Wapiti, got in the evening of the 2nd and left the morning of the 6th, spent the 3rd , in and around Cody and the 4 & 5th driving around Yellowstone, never did see a bear , came close but the Rangers had all ready spooked it away from the roadway and back into the trees. when we left Cody we went north on 120, 72, 310, 212 into Laurel MT then 94 back across ND , into WI

My wife and I visited Yellowstone a few years back. Part of what I remember the most is how crowded it was. You could tell where there was wildlife by the number of cars stopped in the same area. Yosemite was beautiful but even more crowded. I enjoyed the national parks we visited that were relatively uncrowded while we were there, primarily Zion National Park and Sequoia National Park. But even when crowded, visiting Yellowstone was worthwhile. We saw a lot of bison, some elk, but no grizzlies.

Yes it did it crazy 9/10 am not bad but by 11 or so people every where , like around the mud pits/pots by 1 in the afternoon the Rangers had the parking lot blocked off because there just wasn't any room left
