I posted on how I've been home bound, since my bravo broke down... I've finally got the replacement parts assembled, and I'm waiting to get a ride to the cabin where we dropped it, so we can get the ol gal back together....
pic 1) this is the speedo and the inner axle bearing housing.... notice the nice oblong hole ground out by the (free range) drive axle.... the bearing was completely gone except for a very small piece of the inner race.
pic 2) this is the bearing end of drive axle.... it's the part that augured the holes in the previous pic... the tapered round (thing), on the end of the shaft is supposed to be a hex nut..
... it evidently makes a fine cutting tool as well....
pic 3) this is the other end of the axle.. clearly broken, with the tip remaining in the large sprocket... The sprocket itself has some minor wear on a few of the teeth, however, both sprockets and the chain did not receive major damage, although I did buy new sprockets....
pic 4) this is the chain case... the hole is where a stud that holds the chain case cover was... (see similar directly to the right for the second one)... that was the only damage, and probably happened when the axle torqued to the side....
there are a few other minor parts, that will be replaced as well.....
So... all in all I did a pretty decent job of destroying my little machine... but honestly I was making her do tasks that she wasn't designed for.... after I get her back on the trail, she'll be relegated to breaking trail, rather than hauling..... and I have a motor head lined up to get my polaris LX widetrak back up and running..... (another story).....
I don't get how it went so far without any indication that the bearing was gone.... even tho it's a 2 stroke machine, you'd think I'd have heard somw grinding, or metal on metal... some lugging or something... but no... she ran dandy until she didn't... she was zippy, and had great acceleration. There were no new sounds at all.....
oh well.... it happens....
I've got enough supplies in to keep me and the dog and chickens fed until my first summer run in late may.....so it's all good...
