They were only made in stainless steel but if you want a blue one, I know who can blue stainless. I'll keep an eye out for ya.

What exactly would be a Super Black Hawk round trigger guard in steel be? Would the grips have to be the bigger dragoon size?
The New Model S458N is a Super Black Hawk with a steel round trigger guard but it takes the XR3-RED sized grips.
If for Old Model, some Old Armies came with blue steel round trigger guards.
If for New Model, any steel grip frame will marry up, would they not? (Hondo44)
Could you not aggressively file the point off the dragoon shaped steel trigger guard and make it round shaped?

don't all the blued 5 1/2" barreled super Blackhawks come with a blued steel grip frame that has a rounded trigger guard?
the one that's on my Dad's super Blackhawk is marked XR-3, XR3-RED/XRN-3RED grips fit it, not very well though.

Yes you're right, the 5 1/2" and shorter barreled SBHs use the standard grip (XR3-RED size) with round trigger guard and the XR-3 marking. LGS, the other markings you listed are the same size but alum. alloy.
I misunderstood what The Blackhawk Kid is looking for when he stated SBH grip and specified with the round guard. I thought he meant the SBH 'length' grip with round TG which would have to be the SBH Hunter grip and only comes in stainless. This one:

SATCOM: yes, in general: All Ruger SA grip frames including SBH Dragoon, Old Army, Bisley and Birdshead (excluding Bearcats of course) will interchange from the standpoint of the screw pattern from Single Six to Super BH, Old Model to New Model, and even NM to OM.
Depending on models and vintage, some simple mods are required for NMs with free spin pawl/cylinder alignment, front frame projections, matching the grip frame 'ears' to main frame, and for trigger return spring on old model guns, or a few extra holes from old model grip frame to NM main frame.
The Dragoon grip with square back trigger guard filed off would end up with a gap. It's very square on the inside too. Flatgate has welded and rounded a few and they look very good and that way you get a carbon steel frame that can be blued with the regular process. But a lot of skilled work involved.

:arrow: Hondo44, I want a gf like you have pictured in yer post. The round TG's do come on NM SBH's in stainless. I'm gonna fit it to my NM blackhawk cause I like the larger handle. Will I need to do anything to a dragoon gf before fitting it to a NM BhK frame. The intended NM BhK has a Super hammer, and has the lock. I have a Super hammer strut, spring and seat. I plan on Epoxy painting the stainless gf IF I can find a used one. Thanks Hondo44, SATCOM, LSCG. I want to end up with a NM blackhawk, 41 mag, with a super blackhawk grip frame. I wish Ruger would make a Super in 41. I'll have one this way! 8) BHK

No, a SBH Dragoon grip will be a drop in installation. The one caution when shopping for a NM SBH GF is:
Below is a photo of the ears around the base of the hammer. The height varies a bit as the frames get newer but there was one specific big increase. To simplify production in about 1997, Ruger increased the height of the standard cylinder frame mating surfaces on both sides of the hammer 1/16” to match the Bisley model frames so any style grip frame could be assembled to any main frame. Therefore the 'ears' on the standard grip frame had to be made 1/16” taller as well. So there's basically two sizes: short .530” pre 1997 and tall .590” after 1997; measured from the very top edge of the grip panel to the top of the ears. That's why it's important that any acquired grip frame be close to the vintage of the Ruger that you want to put it on and that you get a measurement from the seller of the GF.
