Way back when uniformed police carried 4" 357 mag revolvers, the 125gr jhp had a reputation as a 98% one shot stopper in urban police shoots. The "magic bullet" of the era was Federal's "Hydra- shok". The new 44 special load was a 200 grain silvertip by Winchester. It was rated as a 77% one shot stopper. I would be happy with the 357 load if my assailant was man sized, or smaller. I prefer the 44 when in bear country. I have read how filing a flat on the 246 RN 44 special load increases it's effectiveness. It is like a 44 caliber SGB. It increases the thump factor. Iv'e never actually done that as I cast a 255 Keith style bullet for 44 special use. "What's in your wallet? um, holster.
