Well if there really worth ~ double $460,
Why is it only worth $500 on KSL.com? :roll:
These are nice packages but never have really been all that hot. Many brought more money in 1982 when they first came out than they have in the last few years. imo
It has been rumored that the scalper prices that these guns were bringing ticked WBR off and a large lot was pulled and put away at SRM.
Rest of the story,,,, sure seeing alot of them showing up in the past few months, makes one wonder if there getiing let out.

Thanks guys, I will stick to the non fancy ones, and spend the extra $250 on ammo
As an aside, KSL is a great resource; regularly 700+ listings in the handguns section. I do try to take things with a grain of salt though, especially "special" editions of anything.

Not to me, they don't. Methinks the KSL guy has been reading P.T. Barnum's theory of sales pitches.
The interesting thing about these is that they were the first stainless steel .22 pistols from Ruger.
RENE price guide does have them at $500, however.

I wanted one to go with my 1 of 1000 Mark II stainless. I found one yesterday on GB for $360. It was NIB with all the stuff. I would have liked to pay less, but $360 is a lot less than most people are asking. The seller was nice enough to split shipping with me and only charge $12.50 for shipping!
Is it worth it? Is any old Ruger worth it? Probably not.
But...If a guy needs one, you could look a long time til ya found one at any price.
So, for a guy looking for just any old shooter, 500 bucks is a lot of money. For a guy like me, who appreciates a model that ya just aint gonna find at the local hardware store, ever again, then a bird in the hand is very well worth 500 bucks.
A guy has two choices, here. Buy it, or don't buy it. Only the buyer knows if it's worth it.

I suspect most of these are out of the factory by now. Ruger held about 1,600 of them after the "scalping" episode. He couldn't stand seeing somebody else making a bunch of extra $ that wasn't going in his pocket. This is one of the biggest reasons he didn't have much love for collectors. Funny...you'd think a businessman like that instead would want to see the common man get an example for original prices, but not so with WBR. The parallel with him on that is he evidently never considered the prices he'd give for a fine double rifle, or a hard charging Ferrari or Duesenberg.
Ruger also gave a few of the signature autos out to special folks who would visit the factory, like Mr. Kalishnakov. But the bulk of what was left (estimated at some 600 pistols) left the factory in 2003 for the various "Friends of NRA" events around the country. Many of these again brought close to $1,000 or even more due to the marketing that was present at these events, but although these funds went to a great cause, the RST4S is still pobably not worth much more than $500 or so today.

Chad makes a very GOOD point, the ones that did go out for the "NRA freinds" would have been "sold" (auctuioned) for far more than their real , or actual market value, same held true for any guns that go for 'auction' at Ducks Unlimited...I bought a red label from a guy who owned a Ford dealership down south , and he paid almost 10 times what the gun was worth, as the "money" went to the 'DU' , so these guys will up the bid on purpose, all in a GOOD cause, but this does NOT mean or make that gun "worth " that kind of money......two entirely different 'scenarios' (ball games) Fund raising ONLY...
and as for the first question, at $500 that is 'top dollar'.. could not and have NEVER sold any of the dozens we owned over the years for more than $450 'TOPS and that was a low serial numbered one, the $360 price range,, we often still see today..........and yes, might as well us it as a "shooter"......just make sure you save "packaging"...........
