Kicking self for not buying a pawn shop 77/44 blue/walnut a couple years ago - the perfect project gun for this. It had rust in the first inch of bore at muzzle and a price tag of $325.
I have a lathe and any machinery I need at hand and would BUY it and fit a PREMIUM barrel on it just for the fun of it. Would definitely have purchased a heavier varmint contour while I was at it.
Hind sight is 20-20 they say.

I'm in the process of doing a trade for a Ruger 77/357 Mag in stainless and composite stock. Is the accuracy mediocre for this caliber too? I'm trading a 1974 made Marlin 44 Mag that is very accurate for a lever action rifle.

GaCop, I have a 77/357 and unlike the 77/44, my 357 has been much more accurate. With hand loads and certain factory loads, I can get consistent 1.5 to 2" groups at 100 yards from a shooting bench.
