I've got a ruger sr1911 on order which should get here by midweek.

prior to buying the ruger I spent a lot of time also researching the springfield mil spec stainless and the Remington r1s.

the ruger won out mainly due to the cast in plunger tube (silver soldering colts - been there, done that) and the novak adjustable rear sight (had to buy an expensive sight pusher for the colt).

I only joined this very excellent forum yesterday and just finished reading all 16 pages of this section.
now I have to wonder what kind of luck I'm going to have with my ruger.
I was not aware of the front sight breakage problem. I know ruger will replace them, but to have to send the gun in every time it happens (if it does) is a lot of down time.
if it happens more than once I will probably send the slide to novak and get a steel sight installed.

am I correct in understanding that the novak sights on the sr1911 are not actually made by novak but a licensed MIM part?

for break in I've got 300 rounds of magtech 230 gr. fmj's. after that it will be my own hand loads.
I've also got a variety of jhp's from winchester, hornady and doubletap to try out to see if there are going to be any feeding issues.

I'm really hoping to get a "good" one with no issues.
thanks to all who posted on this forum to make me a better informed sr1911 owner.

yes, there will be a range report.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the incoming SR1911!
I've had no problems with my front sight with about 1400 rounds thru it.

Mine was an early gun, there have been a bunch of issues with front sights breaking but as you said, Ruger will correct it no charge.
I haven't heard of any sights breaking recently, on a number of forums I visit occasionally -- I'm wondering if they got through all the bad sights
and the newer guns aren't having this issue. I guess you'll have to wait and find out!

I still am happy with my SR1911 and think it's a great gun for a first 1911 and for the money.
Looking forward to your results!

thanks, tucson dirt.

i'll bet you know of murphy's gun shop in tucson.

I was there a few weeks ago and they had one in stock.
after checking it out, I knew it was the one.

it just felt RIGHT!
quality looked good too.

found mine on gunbroker for $650 shipped. $20 transfer fee at my local pawn shop.
local gun stores in silver city never seem to have what I'm looking for.

really looking forward to shooting it.

Murphy's is a great store.
I took the wife in there a while ago and "just wanted to look around". I could've spent an hour or more, but she was in a hurry.
We started looking at S&W j-frames (she's been wanting one) but she ended up picking out an LCR 38sp as she liked the
trigger better.

BTW you got a good price on the SR1911.

Welcome to the SR1911 Club! I got mine just over a year ago and it is, by far, my favorite gun.

I've heard about the front sight issue, but sure haven't had an problem with mine.

Shot my first steel challenge match with it yesterday. Had a BLAST!!!

Congrats to you-and just remember if and I do say if with my fingers crossed you should have a problem Ruger will take care of ya! All the best to you and your new big boy play toy that is a coming your way!!!!!
