Will you carry Narcan?

The Surgeon General is urging everyone to spend a few bucks and buy a syringe of Narcan and carry it around just in case you come across someone who has overdosed on heroin. Is the heroin overdose situation a public health crisis or Darwinian "natural selection" in operation? I don't plan to get a syringe and carry it, in fact I have very little sympathy for those that shoot this poison into themselves and do not feel an obligation to carry a bulky item just in case one of these losers overdoses in my presence. What about you?

I am not a medic so how am I qualified to administer a drug to somebody that I have no idea what their problem is?

Just to add to that thought, what if you happen to hit the odds and your injection causes one of the rare but possible cardiac arrhythmias or comas? I've heard some pretty irresponsible things from government employees before but this is right up there with going out on the front porch and discharging a shotgun to scare away burglars. Not to disparage Vito in any way, shape or form but I haven't seen the rec from anyone and would need to see a link before I would believe it came from the Surgeon General.

Ditto..........

IMO, it's not an epidemic - almost all those overdosing folks (except maybe for someone whose MD got them hooked) got themselves into trouble, and as far as I'm concerned, they can get themselves out of it.

The only opioid crisis I see is the accumulation of stiffs & the burden on taxpayers to remove them.

.

I personally have no friends or family that have drug issues, so the worth of me carrying it personally is minimal. However I assist in scripture based recovery classes, so we will likely have narcan there for any emergencies and will make sure I know how to assess and administer if necessary. I look at it no different than being adequately trained in CPR. People can abuse their bodies with addictive drugs as easily as poor lifestyle habits. I'm not going to waste time trying to determine if this person did this to themselves if I have a chance to help.

I think we should look for a financial link between the Surgeon General and the Narcan manufacturer. Big Pharma has made millions from indiscriminate opiod use, now wants to make millions more "saving" people from opiod overdose. I won't be carrying Narcan.

The majority of addicts are a drain on society along with crime that goes with it, if someone's OD'ing I'll call 911, but that's as far as I'm going, they made the decision to use and don't care about the consequences so why should I.
Call me callous but I've known addicts and the majority of them only care about themselves and where the money for the next high is coming from.

No

Get into a car crash - I'll do all I can to help.

Or any other medical emergency, except opioid overdose and 'I'm' suppose to bail you out...Nope.

sorry I wont do it ,me and the wife both had cousins in there late 40's ,who O.D ,almost dying ,then they turn around ,and keep doing it till they OD and died from it ,they did not learn better so i say screw um ,it there problem ,i would rather carry insulin for some one going into diabetic shock ,they cant help it

Not happening...
I am not qualified to ascertain if someone is ODing not am I qualified to make injections. I also will not assume responsibility for an allergic reaction or the consequences of the results of an unwarranted injection of Narcan.

Let's see. Big pharma got the opioid crisis going. Now they want us to make them even richer buying narcan for something most of us will never see and are not qualified to administer. Sounds like a heck of a marketing plan.
