My daughter is in Memphis and seeking a job. She interviewed yeaterday evening with a firm. Concluding the interview, the interviewer stated, "What we're looking for for this position is someone who is independently wealthy..........."

Say what?

Don't laugh - daughter #1 worked 4 months for a start-up (owned by a trust-fund child) who came up with the bright idea to have the sales team work weeks for no pay until a quota (never-before attained) was met. "Motivation" he called it. Two of the best achievers took an early lunch and never returned!

We used to call this "AMI Syndrome" - where your manager reads an article in an airline magazine and comes in Monday morning with a brand-new initiative. 100% failure rate BTW...

Is their company in trouble? Maybe looking for a little backing? She should have said that "Daddy" was just oozing oil all over his properties and seen what they had to say then.

Bob - I would interpret that as "We're gonna work you like a plow horse and we're gonna feed ya bread & water for it."

Time to trundle down the street. As upside-down as the world is today, there are still employers out there who'll pay fairly for the right skills!

I am an electrical/telecommunications engineer, and this reminds me of a job I applied for.

I discussed the job requirements with the hiring manager, and we agreed that I was qualified, and I was definitely interested in the job.

Then we got to the salary, which was quite low considering my education and experience. When I noted the discrepancy, the manager stated that "they were a non-profit institution".

I agreed that I was also a non-profit entity, but I hoped that I would not remain that way.

We concluded the interview with a chuckle.

Several "franchise opportunities" I've looked into require $250,000 or more in "unencumbered assets" plus an investment in real estate and building of another quarter mil or more ....... I got news for you ....... if I had half a mil or more at my disposal I may not NEED to risk it all on a restaurant other franchise.
