Why Fathers Day? Or.......................

There have been posts asking, in effect, why observe Fathers Day, or Mothers day. Or Christmas, or whatever special day.

It is good for a man to stop and look back at times, to see where he's come during life. Certainly there should be some appreciation for the sacrifices made by father and mother over then years. My parental help when I was young and even guidance as I grew older that helped mold me into what I am. Sometimes that guidance was unspoken, just a lifestyle of right just because it is right. To be shown that life must have consideration for others around you. That life is not all about getting but giving as well. And certainly those of faith should relfect on how that faith came about. And certainly a showing of gratitude is demanded from those who live within the confines of rules of propriety and consideration, to those forfathers who hammered out that way of life. It s altogether proper that we observe the milestones of life, and those who carved them.

I don't disagree at all with you Bob, review the past so you don't keep repeating the bad parts/mistakes.

However, 4th of July, do people review the Constitution of the the United States of America and then look at what is happening today - NOPE, they don't care anymore because they don't think it affects them because the people running the country and the mass media tell them what to think.

Nonetheless, there is a day set aside for the purpose. What folks do with it doesn't diminish its purpose. Same for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I totally agree about look back and remember. Unfortunately in today's society $$ drives most everything. Christmas is no longer a celebration of the birth of our Lord and Easter is now all about chocolate bunnies and little chicken candies rather than the resurrection of Jesus.
