When someone says "Colt .45"...

Interesting article about the .45 Flattops convertibles note he tested at least one .45acp+p load.

https://americanhandgunner.com/our-experts/lipseys-45-convertible/

Typical great article by the Late, Great John Taffin. I know he performed exhaustive tests on the Rugers and pushed the limits occasionally as he was wont to do. He has not been the only one to do so. He and the other writers are entitled to their experienced observations. I offer no criticism. :)

I totally get what you are saying. Sounds like you want to hear it from Ruger preferably in writing.

Don't forget Ruger doesn't give permission to use Ruger only loads in any of their guns. Yet most people accept that they are safe in the large frame Rugers.

Playing it cautiously is definitely your best bet.

I did find references to an article in handloader Dec 2011by Brian Pearce. Apparently Ruger told him .45acp+p was no problem In the midsized Flattop.

I don't know what point you are trying to make. Don't confuse the issue.

The Consensus on these Flattop .45's is they can handle .45acp+p. No more ... ...
The main point I was making is just cause the 45 Auto cylinder can handle 45 Auto pressures, along with the frame, does not necessarily mean that the 45 COLT cylinder can.

Which load . . . bullet weight and velocity?
SORRY!
I see the box I was thinking of is "HSM Bear Load".
45 COLT +P 325 Grain Lead WFN Gas Check "Bear Load".
There isn't a Velocity listed?
The other box is Winchester BIG BORE 45.
45 Colt, 250 Grain SJHP, Velocity 845 fps from a 7.5 inch Vented Barrel

OK, after some searching on SAAMI I found a .44mag load of a 300grn bullet at 1200FPS, at 36,00PSI. This is as close as I can come to a sorta similar load in SAAMI. Not as bad as it could be, but still way above 14,000PSI for a .45 Colt load. This is a very rough approximation.

SAAMI shows a .45 Colt load of a 250GRN bullet at 900FPS within the 14,000PSI range. The Winchester load looks good, as we would expect. :)

I'm going to throw this in so everyone can see where all this comes from. Buffalo Bore has put together a lot of technical info related to our discussion here, and it's definitely worthwhile to check it out.

All technical articles Technical articles on ammo

Why SAAMI Why Do Firearms Manufacturers Say Use SAAMI Approved Ammo Only

Ruger revolvers Ruger Revolvers and 45 Colt +P Ammunition

Just remember that Ruger has never "approved" anything other than 14,000PSI ammo in their .45 Blackhawks and related models, and there is no SAAMI spec for any 45 Colt "+P" or "+P+" or any other "high performance" ammo. You don't know for sure what you're getting.

Enjoy. Later. 😁

Exactly.....the girls loved it....along with their Yago Sangria and later on Zima.......respectable males would never be caught with those in hand at a party...unless holding it for their Girlfriend while also holding their hair back so it wouldn't get puked on ;):ROFLMAO:
